I think you missed the point. By NOT finding him guilty the jury is sending a message that this sort of conduct was acceptable to those of the Police hierarchy. It hopefully sends a message to all that such conduct should NEVER be acceptable in any police force. Now you wait for the politicians to react. He wasn't afraid to sacrifice what everyone else thought of him and his career to do it in a bold way. It made people talk about him at the time, but it certainly opened the door to more talks on this kind of violence. They had something to prove before he used his platform. Everyone complaining about disrespecting a flag, what about the disrespect showed to the people who go through these horrid situations, who either live to talk about it or don't. Shouldn't the flag mean something for them as well.
