Thank Jimmy Pankow, the trombone player for that. He wrote a few of their songs, too. An awesome musician like the rest of the band.

​@tennesseeridgerunner5992 Seriously?!? Check out 25 or 6 to 4 from this Tanglewood concert. Also, note that trombone player James Pankow mentioned that Hendrix came after their early set i and said "you guys have a horn section that has one set of lungs and you have to guitar player that's better than me!" This has been reported countless times. I think that's all you really need to know.

@@tbird2893 Jimi Hendrix was known to give huge compliments like that. He once said that Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top was the greatest guitarist he ever saw. That being said,Terry Kath is ONE of the greatest of the rock ‘n’ roll era in my opinion

I'm an 83 yr old female and as far as I'm concerned there was nothing like Chicago. My son is a drummer and was raised on the likes of Chicago. I can't stop watching Chicago 'Tanglewood'. Nothing better!

I get rush after rush of goosebumps listening to these guys. . . I remember having a nostalgic feeling about Chicago the very first time I heard them and I was too young to be waxing nostalgic about anything. Now it all kind of makes sense - we are so lucky to have Chicago in the soundtracks of our lives

Good Morning! Two semi truck full of musical instruments equipment. And only three guys to bring all in. That amazing. They should pay you more for your work. And hired some more guys to help you. Terry Kath should have played around with a hand gun and play Russian roulette with it. I guess his parents never had a chance of talking to him about what not to do with a gun. I tell my kid that nobody really cared what you looked like, it was all about the music. Terry Kath- one of the greatest R&R musicians 60s- until he tragically died. RIP Terry💔

When I played drums, people used to ask me who I thought was the best drummer or if I could take lessons from anybody, whom. I always said Danny Seraphim of Chicago.

I agree with you about the cover band they are great, but they don't play ORIGINAL music and sounds. When I said recreate... i meant original. No body today could originally recreate this kind of soulful sound and music.

Henry Arevalo, I also seen the full lineup at Hampton Roads Coliseum in Virginia in 1975 when I was in the Navy on my first ship the USS BLANDY DD-943. AMAZING SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such a great band! Those of us that were teens/adults in the 70's remember them fondly...Amazingly Chicago, as great as they are, were just one of the hundreds of great bands of the era, Deep Purple, ELO, Floyd, Kansas, YES, Fog Hat, Zeppelin, ad infinitum.... I Love that youtube has so many live performances and Leonid and Friends rekindled my love and expanded my understanding of who Chicago were...Never again will that era return, I fear...~ a tear~

OMG, this just freaked me out. I WAS AT THIS CONCERT! I was 12 years old and went to camp Mohawk in the Berkshires. They took the entire camp to Tanglewood once a summer for a concert. John Sabastian was the other act on this ticket. The year before, (1969) I saw The Who, BB King and Jefferson Airplane there. Wow, what memories.

This was before the choreographed acts, the smoke, stage sets, super lighting etc. You came out and made it happen. And if you could really kick out the jams, everybody got turned on. Chicago did it big, bold and ballsy. No other group like them.

+Jack Sprat Yes, and if you look at the line-up, you had Loughnane, Parazaider, and Pankow on the left, Lamm and Kath in the middle, and Seraphine and Cetera relegated to almost off stage. Their sound was wonderful, just shows to go that you don't need all the bells and whistles of today's concerts to compare with what we saw back in that day.

It's so funny...This song is played in "Trust" (great TV show, by the way), and it is PERFECT in the scene...and I thought, "Yeah, I haven't heard that song since I was a kid." I was so shocked that it was Chicago...I guess they got crappy after they broke up and got back together? This type of stuff is amazing, and I never related any of it to Chicago....(child of the late 70s, 80s).

I've seen this performance more times than I can remember. Each time I'm left shaking my head in amazement. Terry Kath was taken from us much too soon. But, he is still alive in my head. That is as good as it gets, and it happened 50 years ago. Man, I was born at the right time. Lightning in a bottle.

Saw them at the Albert Hall in London. My first rock concert. They were unbelievable. I swear the audience actually and physically raised the roof. Daniel Seraphine became my inspiration to learn drumming and percusion, eventually to join a band and play in all sorts of venues in and around Liverpool.

I saw Chicago in the fall of 1977 at the Aladdin Theater in Las Vegas. I was blown away by Terry Kath. Little did I know it would be one of the last opportunities to see him.

OMG. I have never seen Chicago live, but these Tanglewood recordings make me feel like I was there 50 years ago. Truly spectacular, especially this one, with all three lead vocalists kicking in. Beautiful stuff.

I was so much in love with them(personally) and their music, when I found out Pete Cetera was already married and James Pankow was going to get married after Japan tour in 1972, I was so heart broken. I can laugh about that naivetee now but I was crushed back then. I was only 14 years old...

+Words and Sounds Music What I've done for my car copy of the first album is replaced "Free Form Guitar" with "25 or 6 to 4". This works out really well as "25 or 6 to 4" was recorded during the sessions for the first album. While I like "Free Form Guitar" it's not something I wanna hear every time.

Terry was the soul of CTA!! When he died the band changed completely. They wrote great music, sold a zillion albums, but, the raw energy you're hearing here died with Terry. If you get their first album you'll experience the band as you've never done before.

Santana Taglewood is also a great concert. Like Lamm said earlier in the concert that place is good for your head,

Chicago blows the Spencer Davis Group out of the water with this rendition. I think it might even be better with horns, but then who would play cowbell? Pankow absolutely kicks ass on it.

From an instrumental standpoint, you're absolutely right. None of these guys can hold a candle to Steve Winwood from a vocals standpoint though.

I saw them way back when. Great shows. They do not need gimmicks or props onstage, just the instruments. What has happened to music? Aside from 1 or 2 artists I cannot even listen to today's music.

I am James F JR... And here is the Greatest Guitarist ever Terry Kath. I even believe Jimi Hendrix said so as well. Listen to him. These were Top notch Musicians. Not like today's Music. There are some good ones today. But, real musicians came from my Era of Music just listen. God Bless You.

Jimi Hendrix also said Billy Gibbons is the greatest guitarist ever. He was known to do that. Nice guy but prone to hyperbole. that being said Terry Kath was an absolute beast on the guitar

I am James F JR... I will not disclose my age. But, I will say the Musical Era from the 60s , 70s and Prior to. Like the 40s , and 50s produced great music.but the 60s and 70s with Banda like Chicago really rocked the World in their Unique way. I am a Man , Yes I am and I can't help but Love it so.

Chicago probably at the top of their abilities! What an incredible group. They had everything! And Terry Kath! This man carries the whole group! The post-Kath Chicago was a good group but it can't hold a candle to the original one.

Easy does it. Zeppelin was an accomplished acoustic group as well. This was still great stuff though and I enjoyed every bit of it.

I was 16 in 1970 when this was performed. I was singing the Spencer Davis version of this song in a cover band. We stayed together until 1979, then got back together in 2016 and are doing it again. People of all ages love this old rock.
