I'm truly amazed! I mean, when you see him after he's crossed the line? he looks like he's not even ran 10 yards never mind a marathon! Absolutely bloody fantastic! :))

STEVE WENT THROUGH HALF WAY IN 61.46. A SUPERMAN AT THE TIME A MAN READY FOR ANYTHING .

Ingrid Christensen and Grete Waitz seemed to set the bar higher and higher for women's marathoning. Rosa Mota had been a 2 time Olympic medalist by this race but when you add in what Joan Benoit achieved at Los Angeles in 1984- wow!

Ingrid Kristiansen. Spell check. My apologies Ingrid.

Steve Jones ran an incredible near WR but he simultaneously also ran a stupid race. He's said it himself that had he paced it better he would have been capable of going well under 2:06. Surely without the ridiculous first half split he should have went under 2:06:20 for sure. 61:46 is still today incredibly fast for a first half and with 1985 shoe technology that's just astounding.

I know I’m late to this party, but you are spot on. Not until Haile Gebresalassie ran 2:03:59 in 2008 was Jones’ opening half of this race remotely sane.

And he didn't have the runners the athletes has today to make them run faster about 2 inches of foam under their heels lol

Wow what a run! Steve Jones must have thought he broke the world record as the clock clearly show 2:07:11 when he crosses the line. If you look at the record books his time is recorded as 2:07:13. Does anyone know why it was rounded up by so much?
@austinculver26439 жыл бұрын
nomatesman The clock above the tape said 2:07:11 then they cut down below and their digital display said 2:07:10. The digital display was off, the clock display was accurate. According to clock he got 2:07:12 and digital 2:07:11, but they round up a second. So that makes 2:07:13 because they use the more accurate clock display's time.

Joan Benoit put US women's marathoning at the forefront of the world for that brief time in the mid-90's. Her style of running is impeccable and the nation's track team owesher great for the victories she achieved at LA '84 and this one in Chicago.

Jones was a real marathoner unlike EPMO Farrah

I can only imagine if Jones was 40-50 years younger and had a Garmin, super shoes & etc 🤔
