Wonderful. Thank you. This was my first ever marathon, back when I was 18 and some months. I ran in 3:16, I believe, but I really cannot remember for sure. I remember the energy drink was hideous, a powdered mix, but by the time the race was over, I was looking forward to it ... although maybe that drink was introduced the next time I did it, in 1987. Found out yesterday I am in the race in 2021, some 36 years later.

I ran my first ever race against Steve Jones, the Rhymney Valley Half Marathon, back in 1984. He obviously won it, in 1hr 2min 15sec, but i was not far behind, in a time of 1hr 44min 8sec

You were 42 minutes behind. Is your comment a joke?

What is the time marker when Steve Jones takes a crap in the tunnel? As I remember he squatted and took a big shit and then carried on and won.

It was late on, commentator said he was adjusting his shorts !

I believe it's 1:56:50 The camera conveniently cuts away at that moment too and then returns 8 seconds later, after Jonesy has relieved himself. Incredibly quick crap, but he was a fast guy I guess.

The commentators were pretty disrespectful of Steve Jones. He was always the class of this field. He was an absolute beast in the marathon. His 2-07 PB was in basic shoes and nutritional supplements, its still the second fastest ever run by UK athlete almost 40 years later 🤯. He could run 2-03-2-04 in todays running technology I have no doubt.

He would have still been the British record holder at the least.
