Well done, somehow this guy sounds even better on non-ballad songs by chicago, his voice got personality, too bad he left
@weksheddweller2 жыл бұрын
I feel that Jeff's voice fit more with Chicago's Terry-era songs. With the ballads, he was so-so, although he effortlessly reached the high notes of Cetera. All in all, he was a great addition to Chicago despite his short stay.

Coffey is a great addition to the group and getting better. You can't rewind time, and Cetera is never coming back, not that this is his style anymore anyway. This music is still amazing 50 years in.

Awesome performance Jeff! I think questions 69 and 70 should be, where does Chicago keep finding Bass players that can sing? and how do they sing that high?

I'm not going to get into the whole "this guy is better than that guy" thing (kind of pointless), but, this band line-up kicks ass. Saw them in the Bay Area (spring 17), big production, bigger sound!

Chicago has always followed "what sells" - and what packs theaters is a band that sounds like they did in 1971. Coffey blends in like early Cetera more than Scheff.

Jeff was the Best thing to happen for Chicago since Peter left. He 'met the bar', and beyond, as they say. Spot on: the man had EVERYTHING and that VOICE!!

@@tonyde52 I wonder if they just springed that on him, or if he knew that when he took the gig? I honestly don't know.

Jeff sounds better than Jason, but both fall short of Peter vocals. That guy just had an incredible and unique style that made Chicago uber great.
@sharonlaforest61347 жыл бұрын
Jeff is good. But for me I will always remember these songs from the early 70's when I first heard them on the radio and playing on juke boxes. And that was when the original seven guys were together. They were the best back then and unfortunately they are not all together today.

(I hope that light show is ADA compliant, lol) Good job by Mr. Coffey, but how do "major" bands know where to find musicians like this, for example, if the keyboard player breaks his leg while playing a game of pick-up basketball and couldn't physically perform for a few weeks? I know that Journey found their new lead singer through KZbin, but how did Chicago find this high tenor singing bass player?
@thetinman2158 жыл бұрын
A friend of Keith Howland knew Jeff and suggested that he might be a good fit to replace Jason...
@928Porscheman7 жыл бұрын
Cliff Smith ha ha, these are questions 69 and 70. I find it hard just to find good bass players, let alone ones that can sing in that vocal range.

Jeff Coffey was a good replacement and as a singer did a nice job for the band...But in this sng, Jason was definitely better.
@steeveomatic8 жыл бұрын
There's an old saying that says 'there's nothing like the original'. Certainly, Peter's gone and nobody, short of a clone, will ever fill his shoes. As Chris Pinnick came the closest to Terry Kath's guitar style, Jeff Coffey is the closest to Peter's vocals and prowess of the bass guitar. No offense to Jason, he was good and one hell of a nice guy, but Jeff edges him out.
@albertross23226 жыл бұрын
Been a fan since the beginning and seen every line up. I've seen Cetera live and I can without question say that if he had stayed with the band that they would have retired many years ago. When Jason came on board it was a breath of fresh air, but over the years he also lost "It". Coffey should hold them over for a while, but will wear out quickly (you can hear it already) and unfortunately Scheffs righting contributions are noticable on "Now".
@davidfrench54076 жыл бұрын
..and now, Coffey is gone. Tris Imboden, too. That didn't last long...

Yeah and I can imagine the tenor parts of chicago songs can be specifically brutal to your voice, especially when touring as much as they do
@moodylicious4 жыл бұрын
@@Shmynkellbonkenstein yet Peter managed it all the way up until 2019. Brutal? Not for a person blessed with the pipes and range of Peter Cetera. And Jeff showed NO SIGNS that his ability to reach his highs would soon give out.

@fretbuzz597 жыл бұрын
+Jennifer Puhl And what do you think *you* know about music? In his prime, Cetera was far better that either Scheff or Coffey, but Coffey--although he struggles--comes closer. Scheff tended to sing sharp, plus he always sounded like he had a lozenge stuck in his throat.

Everytime Chicago gets a new band member, it just bastardizes their legacy even more. Band members change i get that and it will always happen. However now there is only Three original members and Four or Five newer ones. When does it not become Chicago anymore??? Jeff Coffey Can sing but does not have Cetera's Depth and Warmth in the vocal dept.
