I was recently in Chicago and mistook 26th street for Ogden when I pulled out of the Sam's store. I ended up in Little Village and was fascinated with the Beautiful culture I was seeing. My wife and I were stunned to see the bustling community obviously run by the Mexicans. It was absolutely Beautiful to us. So much Commerce. The Mexicans are an industrious people and have a lot to offer. We are black and from Alabama. Please embrace this place, shop there and support the businesses, we have nothing like this in Alabama.

I am sure you know much more about Little Village than I do. It is sad that Chicago has such culture but the people don't respect it. If you also look at the old Victorian homes in Detroit it makes one angry that they are being destroyed. Same with Chicago. I won't debate you on what you know about Little Village that I don't know Steve X.

I did not mean you don't respect it. I mean the people of the neighborhood don't respect their own community. there should not be gangs and hookers etc.

Thanks for posting. I grew up in Little Village during the 1960s and 1970s. Lived on Kedvale and then on Pulaski just south of 26th. When I was a kid in 2nd grade I was running around with a friend in that Walgreens on the corner of 26th and Pulaski and rounded a corner and knocked over a rack of coffee mugs. The manager grabbed me and called my mom at work to come pay for them. If I'm not mistaken, that Western Store at the end of the video is in the building that used to be the old Club Moravia, a social hall for the Czech community, bingo, dances, and wedding receptions. Back then Little Village was a Polish and Czech neighborhood. Most people aspired to move to the suburbs and did. Now a new wave of immigrants have moved in. But its the same in a way. All that commerce on 26th he commented on was there back then, just different stores and restaurants. Great neighborhood back then. Lots of trees on the side streets.

26th street little village is the number 2 commerce in Chicago after Michigan avenue....technically the neighborhood is divided by 2 gangs....in turn each side has there own McDonald’s, Burger King, Walgreens, subway, a specific Mexican brand grocery store on each side (la Chiquita), it is obviously intentional because of the gang culture, helps keep some peace for families to come out n enjoy these businesses without the threat of rival gangs at the same McDonald’s per say...u know which one belongs to your side n that’s where you go. Regarding the jail, it used to be just one building courthouse with its jail, n obviously throughout the years, different aspects of the court system it’s grown to have a vast number of employees (won’t exaggerate, idk exact #) anyways, it’s federally licensed/funded, so there’s more then meets the eye to this 1st impression when u 1st turn onto 26th on California. Keep little village’s truth front n center, 26th street, little village commerce is Chicago’s 2nd next to Michigan avenue. For the record, the city of big shoulders has so much to attribute to little village for its continuing growth.
