@MattSezer Жыл бұрын
Underrated?! It’s universally considered one of the worst in MLB, maybe just after Oakland. I haven’t been there since probably the late 90s, but at least then, it was like the most impersonal experience of watching baseball. They had to reduce seating capacity by thousands to make it less of a giant billboard filled corporate behemoth of a place. They’ve kind of done the opposite with Wrigley, which is sad.

@@MattSezer that's why they're saying it's UNDER RATED. because it's always viewed as one of the worst. i get it's not as personal as Wrigley, but I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be. Other than the most ridiculous stadium name in the Majors ( I mean, how un-baseball can you get? ) this place looks great! Still, it's too bad they didn't save the original Comiskey with a major remodel like Wrigley...
@SACSportsAdventures Жыл бұрын
I think the old Comiskey was a little too far gone for major renovations. The changes they’d want to make to modernize it would have had serious structural implications and it would probably be more costly than building a new ballpark. Regardless, I still thing this stadium looks fantastic!
@OldRustySteele Жыл бұрын
@@SACSportsAdventures They would have to do something like they did at Lambeau Field for the Packers, where they built a surrounding structure which would greatly increase the width of the food concourses. Then, they would have had to go upward from that structure to build a 3rd deck above the existing 2nd deck (which was the top deck). Not sure if a new 3rd deck would be the luxury boxes, or if they’d have made part of the 2nd into the boxes and had the new 3rd just new cheap seats. But you’re right, it would have been a major project, and perhaps not worth the money. I lived in suburban Chicago in the late 80’s and early 90’s when New Comiskey was built. First time I went there, me and my kids were in the top deck way out by the LF foul pole. I nearly got vertigo, it was so high and steep. Sometime in the early ‘00’s, they removed the top 7-10 rows (I don’t remember exactly how many), and put a different, larger roof on which made it feel a bit more comfortable and more “basebally”. Before that renovation, the top rows felt more like Shea Stadium, or even a big football stadium.

Writing this before watching the video. I’m gonna be honest with you. I’m a diehard White Sox and Packers fan, and lifelong stadiums enthusiast. Watched your videos on Lambeau (nice job btw), Wrigley, Miller Park, and the Great American Ballpark. All of which I’ve been to. As a White Sox fan, I fully acknowledge that no, we do not have the very best ballpark. However, I don’t believe for a second that we have the worst. Despite this I quite regularly find it rated at the very bottom of people’s ranking videos and lists, sometimes rated even lower the Rogers Centre, Tropicana or the Coliseum. Even if you put us at #27 out of 30 on that list. I think there’s still a massive gap in quality between us and those parks. And people who give us crap saying our park is dull and boring and the upper deck is to high, usually have no clue what it was like before the renovations. When the concourses were bare white, the upper deck was 10 rows higher and so much more we didn’t have yet. I just hope you gave us a fair shot. Respect man
@SACSportsAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Contrary to other ratings I actually loved it. Haha! I loved how closed in and intimate it feels because of the banners in the outfield. The fans were the best fans in baseball that I’ve seen. It was one of my best experiences at an MLB game. Let me know your thoughts after you watch the video.

The stuff blocking the view was actually designed to black the view of the Projects behind it there used to be around a mile of High rise projects right on the other side of the E-way. I’ve never had a bad game day in my handful of times there (but much prefer Wrigley, obvi). But I am always endlessly disappointed by the decades-old mistake of not orienting the stadium to take advantage of that phenomenal skyline view. Imagine if they had the skyline of Chicago in the outfield?
@SACSportsAdventures2 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree! The old stadium was oriented towards downtown but since it was two tiers all the way around there was no view. Massive missed opportunity and it sucks that the only view you can get now is from the (unaccessible to 100 level ticket holders) upper deck.
@subg8858 Жыл бұрын
They don’t build baseball stadiums oriented due west anywhere due to the sub

@@subg8858 you clearly don’t know Chicago geography. Downtown is NORTH.

@@subg8858 in fact it’d be near impossible to build a stadium at a location where the downtown skyline would be due west, unless you plopped it down in Lake Michigan

@@SACSportsAdventures sweet! Looked like a fun game to be at with all the goals, especially for your Jackets. The UC is one of those places where there isn't a bad seat in the house (except maybe right next to the press boxes). Love going there for Hawks games, and Bulls games are very fun as well. As a White Sox fan, I appreciate this good review of Guaranteed Rate Field. This place had been so maligned since it opened, with Camden Yards in Baltimore opening in 1992, and the constant comparisons to Wrigley Field. It weighs us Sox fans down when you'd hear over and over again how "bad" the place is. Well as you saw for yourself, the home of the White Sox is a great place for baseball. Yeah...Wrigley Field is more popular. That place is marketed more as a tourist attraction. But Guaranteed Rate Field is a great place to watch a ball game. Hope you'll come back soon...and GO SOX!!!!!
