I just love the sound of a fresh bag of potting soil opening - the rustling of the bag, the fluffy soil landing in the container, the anticipation of new growth! Your tulips will be stunning, can't wait to see them in the Spring!

I’m hoping so! If I fail again this year, I’m giving up planting in fall and just buying pre sprouted tulips in the spring to plant.

Some moisture is needed for the bulbs, it’s part of what triggers their growth. Naturally bulbs are in the ground and are exposed to rain, as long as the ground drains well the bulbs shouldn’t rot.

And by the way, I just purchased my first birdie raised bed which arrives in a couple of days. The grow bags were beginning to be a little cumbersome since I had so many. Now I have to look around the Internet on what I should not be putting in my raised beds because I know I could put wood leaves and grass.

That’s so exciting! Do those have an open bottom to the ground?

Can't wait to see that in spring!🤩🤩🤩

I hope it’s as good as I imagine!

I assume there was already moisture in your potting mix as the bulbs will need at least some for root growth. I guess you could check how dry it is after it thaws out and add then some water then if needed. Overwatering during winter will def kill them but you don't want them shriveling up either haha

There was a little bit already! I’ll check on them though so see if they need more throughout the season.

Sometimes you just have to take a chance and try something new, could be amazing!

I put 75 bulbs in my box waiting for spring. Tulips bulbs have to be in cold around 40 F for at least 3 months. Leave them in ground year round. Been doing for 30 years. Don't add wAter when planting in fall

One year I 'mulched' the top of my pots that I had planted tulips bulbs in with leaves and hardy any bloomed ..I thnk putting the leaves on the soil caused them to rot. I'm not sure you should put that garden waste on them Bethany ..but I am def no garden expert :) Can't wait to see them - lovely bright colours !

I agree, I’d suggest making a little pyramid of twigs instead.

That will be so pretty if it works

I will cry tears of joy if it does!

It looks like you might have to build that center a little higher because once that soil settles in the top is going to lay flat again I don’t know I’m just saying 🫣
@ChicagoGardenerАй бұрын
That’s exactly what I was thinking! I should have put something on top that won’t break down. That’s an issue for future me though 😆

I think your black cover is vented because if it weren't on sunny days heat would build up too much & could possibly kill plants under it.
@ChicagoGardenerАй бұрын
That’s true! I just wish the top vent didn’t let water in somehow. The side vents are good to have but they aren’t actually on the plant bed.

The last couple videos your sounds seems really low to me. I have to turn my volume way up to hear you. Mid-way through this video it seemed to get a bit better. Hmmm. Just wanted to let you know.

Thanks for letting me know! I’ll definitely check my settings.
