Dr Manning and Dr Halstead treat a patient who has symptonms of paralysis in her legs until Dr Halstead finds he has the exact same symptons.
Season 3 Episode 5 "Mountains and Molehills"
Dr. Choi and Goodwin butt heads over ethics when his patient refuses to take a test for HIV. Meanwhile, Dr. Halstead and Dr. Manning treat a patient who is suffering from sudden paralysis but, later on, Halstead begins to get the same symptoms and fears it might be a contagious disease. Noah deals with his first patient death and Dr. Reese gets increasingly paranoid over hospital security when her car gets vandalized. Dr. Robin Charles starts to exhibit signs of kleptomania.

Amber Bonomini a tick is a parasite that feeds on the blood off mammals, birds and in some cases reptiles and amphibians as well. A paralysis tick is the most common tick in Australia - hence why we call it the “Australian paralysis tick” is the most medically important tick in AUS, because it injects neurotoxin into the hosts it lands on ...

@@Thatcher-vk4ul yeah those little fucks have killed two of my childhood dogs. Also made my neighbours baby really sick and had to rush her to the hospital (the baby was okay in the end - but got to a critical condition). I've been sick from them so much. Honestly though, it just depends where you live. They're condensed more in the tropics and areas with more shrubbery/ damp forests. The average Aussie won't have to deal with them in their lives.

@MichaelFawcett-91 @MichaelFawcett-91 I've had a few paralysis ticks in my life growing up in the rainforest. If you don't notice the tick in the first 12 hours from itching it or seeing a rash, you can get influenza like symptoms. Nausea, dizziness, headaches or migraines (sensitivity to light). If it's left long enough you can then start experiencing partial paralysis on the face. If left for 3+ days more severe paralysis symptoms can arise but those are less common. I don't believe they can make an adult paralysed completely. Children are more effected. Generally you notice that they have severe fatigue and keep sleeping all the time (also relevant with adults) and can become quite serious if left for a couple of days.

People need to be more aware of ticks and the dangers they pose. In the UK, Lyme disease is barely known about and rarely diagnosed. Things like this need to be more widely acknowledged.

I think it’s because of the geographic location of the UK. Ticks like hot weather, don’t they? It’s always said in the news in my country, to beware ticks during a hot summer. Since the UK doesn’t have as hot summer, people are less likely to have ticks. But this is just my theory based on what I know, I could be wrong.

With an Aussie paralysis tick you actually get a headache first before paralysis kicks in. Especially if it gets on your head, they are usually caught in enough time but please note that A) she did not remove that tick properly when the ticks latch on they actually borrow into your skin a bit and as such you need to scoop them out as tweezers often only get the body and it makes it more difficult to get the head out as it keeps dispersing toxins even if the parasite dies. B) The smaller you are the worse it is for you. These ticks kill pets including large dogs. They can kill small children if left untreated. Adults usually only get very ill as an adult body mass is able to handle the amount of toxin that one tick can give. My one major nitpick. That girl was on a flight back from Australia. Tick symptoms start showing, aka the headache, within an hour of it latching on. If she had gotten that tick in Australia and gotten on a flight back to Chicago. That is a long enough flight that the airline would be calling an ambulance when they got to the states. Her and the mum would not be in the waiting room they would already be in icu in a hospital nearest to the airport. And that is also implying that they went outdoors in a garden, park or bush area right before they got on their flight. Just saying

Twisting can also leave the head behind, because you just twist the body of. She wasn't pulling it out straight, but made a kind of twisting-sweeping motion, which can be more effective in removing the tick entirely. Though there is always the danger of leaving the head behind unless you directly grip its head.

I have a real version of this. It was really terrifying and painful. While in the United States, I started experiencing periods of time when I would have pain and paralysis in my arms and legs. I was also extremely tired all of the time. I would drink five or six cups of coffee and still need to take a lie down. It took months to figure it out and all kinds of blood tests and an MRI. One doctor told me that I had cancer, another though MS. As it turns out, I was bitten by a tick and became extremely allergic to meat and products like gel vitamins which are made from mammals. In the end, I was the one to figure it out because I participate in a tradition of fasting when I don't eat meat, and I lost my vitamins.

I’m Australian and used to get ticks in my head when I was a kid; only because I would roll around in the grass. I used to have to go to the hospital and get them removed by a doctor on several occasions 🤣 though I never got paralysed because of them..
