For those wondering, Sseth managed to crash the dev's site due to how many people were trying to buy and download the game. So what did they do? Gave sseth a direct download link for the game so he could put it in the description of his video. Along with a direct link to buy the game.

@@kennandunn7533 Yes and no. When you start the game for the first time, it ask you for a key to put in. When you buy the game, you honestly only get a key to activate the game. But they did sort of give out the game for free, since the key Sseth put in his video still works.

I've read in some comments somewhere that the devs are the best! They appearantly send you a personal email when you buy multiple copies (for a friend or something) to ask if it a was mistake that you bought two copies. That's so goddamn commendable!

Ah yes. Starsector. Throw the ai to the sun and consider what you've done. Edit: Sidenote, the cd-key is real and still works. the devs decided to not patch it and see this as a free marketing trial instead. So you can try it for free but do remember to pay them so they can continue!

I think the thing that most stands out to be about this series of reaction is the general air of amazement that games of this depth and complexity exist; when the reality is that they were largely the norm of PC gaming for a long time. Mainly existing as outgrowths of tabletop gaming that was, itself, once more mechanically complex and involved than what the popular market is now willing to bear. It displays an interesting disconnect of the mainstream videogame industry and fans, and the niche subcultures that have just been trucking along unnoticed since the earliest days.

The down side of a lot of those games too is their ui and game mechanics take you a decade to learn. They all have amazing system but are some of the most new player unfriendly games out there XD I do wonder if a happy medium is possible.

@@RexZShadow I don't really see it as a downside, merely an aspect of what they are. Especially because that learning process is, typically, a foundational part of the intended experience. Which I find is part of that difference between old/new design styles. Doom Eternal has been a great example of this. Doom Eternal has tutorial pop ups every thirty seconds explaining its mechanics and how to defeat each enemy. Not because it's trying to hold the player's hand but because the process of experimentation is about zero percent of the point. The 'fun' is meant to be entirely in skillfull execution and the game's unafraid to make sure you get the point. Contrast a game like Starsector or Kenshi where "What is this and what does it do?" is central to the experience. Applying base mechanics to novel or unexpected situations is sort of the point. These the opposite to the above, where explaining themselves too much would destroy any semblance of the intended exerience. While there's a lot more some games can do to be approachable and legible, I don't know that 'new player accesibility' is really a very important goal, from any but a commercial standpoint. Nor do I really think that there's a good universal definition of that idea either. A game should do its best to cleanly and succinctly introduce a new player to what it is, but more and more anymore I hear people complain that what some games are is inaccesible to them by nature, and thus needs to change, which I find a rather toxic and entitled mindset. (Not, for clarity and being the youtube comments, that I'm linking you to said. Just observing part of the general wider discussion about the topic.) tl;dr: "It's complicated, but art isn't beholden to be for everyone, though being as legible as possible to its target audience is good practice."

To be honest time is not an excuse to not play this gem of a game. You can save at any point in the game and jump back into it later. I agree with Seth, one of the absolute best game purchases I've ever made.

Starsector is one of the best indie titles I've ever had the pleasure to pirate and then buy. The devs are amazing. When Sseth first published this video, he also published his own CD key for the game. Despite this, he drove so much traffic to their sales website that it crashed. Also despite this, the devs never disabled the CD key he provided, so you can play the game for free using Sseths key even today. Highly worth a try. The game DOES need attention to play, but you can play it for a few hours a week and get along just fine.

Fun fact that seeth didn't noticed is that you can avoid interdiction by starting your own interdiction pulse. Although you need to time it or else it will just reduce the time for the burn drive to be disabled.

1. Try to avoid colonizing planets until you've found a good system and posses some domian-era planetary artefacts. 2. Make sure your initial 2 colonies can be specialized into either production, refinement or military. Make sure exports outweigh imports to make money. 3. Make sure your initial 2 colonies are close so that they cover each other from attack. 4. Make sure colonies are within range of [REDACTED] planetary modifiers. Explore to find them.

Best sci-fi game. It's actually not too hard to get into, though the combat learning curve will absolutely fuck you to begin with. That fades quickly if you actually try, and from there the combat is smooth and effortless. Time constraints definitely aren't an excuse not to play it, as session time is only as long as you want it to be, and you can always find room in a schedule if you look hard enough (who cares about sleep anyways? Starsector outranks it).

I had never heard of this game until I saw his video even though I love space sims. after I downloaded it I ended up putting probably 100 hours in just a few months and its a fantastic experience that I highly recommend.

The game got a big update after that review came out. I won't spoil the story stuff, but here's a note regarding my choice of colony: Pre -.95 reaction would've been: oh, just one habitable, meh Post-.95: 1 habitable, 2 dead rocks for mining+ heavy industry, all orbiting a gas giant, less than 5ly from the core(plus I'd found some relevant modules). I played this game before Love it got a mod that puts the imperium in it and crushed them with my fleet of soldiers with AI units. Also this imperium is interesting they act just like the imperium only they worship AI's like their Gods and their Emporer is an AI as well.

It's an amazing game with the nostalgic graphics of older 2d space games, but sometimes it gets annoying when you get on the bad side of certain factions. For example, I wanted to expand my fleet without buying ships, so I raided and captured independent fleets. I thought, since they were independent, they were part of no faction. But no, independents are actually their own faction, and they are literally everywhere with stuff that is better than me. There are so many of them in hyperspace that I am basically stuck travelling between 3 stars. I try to get on their good side, but they send mercenaries with ships that are exponentially better than mine before I can try and complete their missions.

I've played the game and its amazing. My criticism is that theres no endgame and theres no true faction diplomacy/interaction yet. You become unstoppable, get bored, then just stop playing. That or try a different role playing run.

Don't listen to this guy. Instead, install mods. Nexerelin expands diplomacy to a incredible extent, and pretty much any other mod you find will be incredibly high quality and adds vast quantities of content to the game. If you ever grow bored, that just means you haven't installed enough mods. Also, Alex is steadily working on the endgame, and the main questline got a massive update only a few months ago.

Too many to track off? You'll get used to it. I even installed a mod that gives you a more detailed day to day report of the situation. Both with your colonies and your own personal fleet's activities. And I can no longer play without it. I demand logistic reports every 5 minutes. How much supplies is my fleet using every day, how many LYs of fuel we have left before we need to stop. How much expenses my fleet and the colony is using every month and how much money we are saving/gaining. Without the need to open the Command and Intel Menu. I also demand that every trade ship that goes in and out of my colonies to be tracked. Because I want a pirate or a Pather to have a bad day when I find out one of them gets shot down, regardless of whose ship, gets blown up. Because no one dares disrupt my cash flow.

5:00 I must disagree, piracy in the far future, when we will be capable of space travel will most likley be a thing the moment we will have something like "trade routs" from plante to planet and stuff like that, piracy will exist, i mean even today piracy still exist it is very small compare to the past but it is still there. And our space exploration can be consider our earth exploration but on much larger scale, us discovering and going to new solar systems and planets will be equivalent to us discovering new continents like North America. You could say that Earth and Space Exploration/Conflicts is that same "game" it's just the scale that changed
