*So here is what you get for your $45-50 that this alpha will set you back:* - Roughly 6 or 7 mission types with 2-5 different mission setups in each, some of which even involving other players like responding to somebody's help beacon or hunting down a player pirate. These missions can take a while, but are single affairs, no chains. - Around a hundred ships with all but a handful event versions purchasable in-game, around 10-20 purchasable in the cash shop either as game packs or as standalones. - "Everything" is either simulated or being worked on to be simulated (WAY more stuff than in any other game but still less than 10% of what is planned for the release). That means you have to drink, eat and breath (not go into space without a helmet and undersuit), have weather effects such as the cold freezing you to death, creating frost on your visor, rain with droplets, winds that can blow you off your feet or blow away your ship, heat that can kill you, clouds to admire from above in ships or stations or from below on the surface or from cities, there are hospitals, injuries and drugs, a physics system... (The next simulations improvements to come within the next few patches are autonomous pathing and actions of enemy AI so it can follow you across the entire solar system, a more complex medicine system and a more complex cargo and trading system...) - A good amount of different personal and ship weapons, personal armor and ship components. - Events like the huge yearly ship expo where you can rent ships for free instead of in-game money, a community event that's all about helping each other learn the ropes and an alien invasion event, both coming in a few days, player-run racing events, although the devs are working on making it e-sport viable.... *Bottom line, it's a sandbox where MUCH of it is about immersive simulations, so you will enjoy it more if you know how to make your own fun like roleplaying for example, like these guys in the video did.*

I play Star Citizen. If you want experiences like this in the verse you're going to need a crew and a veteran player to teach you the ropes. It has a high skill curve and nobody is going to be the best at everything so it drives people to cooperate with other players. No Mans Sky has a way more in depth solo gameplay style, Star Citizen can be played solo but solo gameplay is still being built up while coop gameplay is highly encouraged. Also certain gameplay loops are still being built up in the game so not every gameplay loop is going to be as polished as the next. The good thing about Star Citizen is that every year its getting better and closer to release with so much being added and fixed that its unrecognizable from the last year. Everyone has a certain tolerance of bugs and lack of polished gameplay loops so if you feel its not good enough for you to play now its perfectly fine to wait a couple months or years till you find the patch that makes you feel its worth to play. My last tip is if you do decide to play then be creative in the thing you want to do. I've seen videos of people hiking up mountains and exploring caves where they had the most fun without firing a single shot from their weapons. There are many player made events that you can create or become apart of like the races that go on throughout the year that players qualify for and race for real prizes. Maybe its a simple ship meet up event where all the players on the server grab their favorite and most unique ships and come and gather together at a certain place to show them off. Do your research into the events you might like to be apart of or create your own. Welcome and see you in the Verse.

@@ChicagoReacts You’re welcome! It’s an amazing project but if you just jump in blind you might miss the things that make this game amazing. You most certainly can have experiences as amazing or more than in the video but you just have to get past the learning curve or have a veteran player to hold your hand a bit. The more people playing Star Citizen the better! Good news though is that the monthly report on progress from Star Citizen has just stated that they are starting work on creating a better new player experience so if you can’t get into Star Citizen now then you may have better luck then. They also have a weekly show every Thursday called Inside Star Citizen that is fun way to show the players some updates on the game so you can see what coming next and jump in when you think you’re ready. It’s better to wait for when you think you’re ready for the game than try to force it and then get turned off by it. I’m still pretty new to gameplay but I have been following the project for a couple years. This year is a really good year for Star Citizen and next year will be the year especially with the new solar system coming out. Hope to see you guys in their soon.

Well, there is no ship for $42k, but there is a package with ALL ships and all their variants that costs that much. But there are large ships for $1000+, but there are cheaper ones too. $45 for a starter ship and access to the game. Most ships can be bought and rented ingame with ingame currency. Also important to note that all that $ money is used to develop the whole thing (2 games actually), as the project is crowdfunded (no publisher). Yes, you can actually mine ore in the caves of the prison. You can trade those to reduce your prison sentence and be released sooner. Or you can just log off, as the time keeps ticking while you are offline. Or, you know, you can escape. Its buggy, its lagging and it has bugs to no end, but its ambitious and getting there. Slowly. And yes, the video is staged and prepared a lot. It probably took them a whole day to do all that, I would assume. I am sure they cut out lots of bugs and crashes too.

The gameplay demonstrated in this video is extremely old. It is even better now. I have been a backer since 2013, I play all the time and there is both mission and freeform gameplay. This was not setup gameplay. It was gameplay that comes up through what is already in the game. It is a sandbox though, so you have to make your own fun, outside of the missions. NPC ships do not shoot at players that are on foot yet like it did in this video (but they will). That is, unless it is a player in a ship or on foot doing the firing. Does it always happen like this? ... no, but you will see some of this if you play enough. I played No Man's Sky, and it is nothing like SC. They are two completely different games. SC is buggy, but what they are attempting to do is very different and worth the wait. You only need $45 for a starter ship package. $60 if you also want the single player game coming named Squadron 42. You can also purchase ships to add on to your package if you choose, but you don't have to. The $45k you mentioned was a package that includes all the ships in the game. All of the real money spent on ships is used to fund the development of the game. You can also purchase or rent most ships in game with credits. Eventually you will be able to purchase or rent all of them.

If you ever want to see what is possible in this game film making wise, I suggest you take a look at "Adrift - a Star Citizen Machinima". It's a short movie (first in hopefully multiple episodes) that is filmed entirely within the game, with face over IP tech to capture facial expressions of the characters, and voice acted by a few professional voice actors, with only a single scene having been through post production to add a hand, because for that scene there was no character animation that could be done to get something similar. It's the most high quality production machinima available in the game engine today and an incredible view into what is possible and what a dedicated community will be able to produce more reliably with games in the near future.

Thanks for sharing! These guys are great. To clear little misconceptions: selling ships is how they fund the game. You only need $45 and can buy the ships in game. So they're not DLC. Generally you can upgrade to other ships single player ships from $5 to about $60 more. Or once you know how to play, you can earn another sip in 2-3 days or get the best single player ships in about a week. Just buy the $45 package because that's all you need. Yes there are expensive ships. Not $45,000 ships. Lol. The thing about the expensive ship prices that the gaming press always focuses on is those expensive ships are all multi-crew. They're designed for large orgs with lots of people. Imagine having an aircraft carrier but no other people on board. There's no point. These multi-crew ships are designed to be group goals. The Valkyrie is a drop ship and costs $330. That sounds incredibly expensive, but it's a drop ship. It's designed to drop off players. 20 people fit in that thing. Suddenly, that crazy price is just $16.50 per person. Much more reasonable. The biggest, most expensive ship in game players can buy is 2.5 grand. But it requires a crew of 80 people to operate effectively. 80! One player cannot do the job of 80 people. These are org ships designed as org goals. Altogether, that's $31.25 per player. Again, more reasonable. And it's not "pay to win" as everything is like a game of rock, paper scissors. There's no real advantage to scissors. Capital ships can destroy small fighters. Bombers can destroy capital ships. But small fighters can destroy bombers. Capital ships are expensive and require an org to run it efficiently. And many ships are salvage, medical, mining or repair ships which usually don't participate in combat. These ships can just run away without fighting. There's a "buy all the 200+ ships" package that is ridiculous that you may be referring to. But you as one player can only fly one ship at a time. Again, this is for large orgs. You would need 200 people to fly all the ships, and since many are multi-crew you would need closer to 500 friends. So a lot of the freaking out about ship prices is a lot of overreacting over nothing.

Don't give up on it yet. Try it out during one of the free fly events. Make sure that you have enough RAM and store the game on a SSD and then just give it a go. The performance might not be great if you genuinely have a potato. But the gameplay is slow paced enough that you can get by with low performance. But try to take things slow so things can load in etc. And go into details with the settings instead of just relying on low, medium, high etc. As the right mix will give you significantly better performance then just going low and settling for that. It's about finding the right balance for *your* system. Close stuff running in the background. Make sure that you have a good internet connection. And yeah, hopefully you'll get a good experience. I'd not try a later patch, and a later one till you get one where your system can handle it or you get a new system. :-)

In said org, I'm a squadron leader and not a ground grunt, so I need variety of fighters to change up my role. As I've had to do during server wide events. No way in hell am I taking down a player operated A2 bomber with a light fighter. Which I've gotten some good videos playing with them during events and we so far....stomp ass. Prices - ignore the expensive packs, no need to buy anything over max $60, everything else is available in game, and honestly adds to the game when you earn it yourself. Bugs - there are a lot, not to mention fairly unusable UI (it is being reworked), the learning curve is steep, make sure to ask in gen chat or people who know the game in your live stream, a guide is absolutely recommended. about your video - my first time catching you both, was a fun react video, love the genuine look of excitement on your faces. would recommend checking your audio back and removing the auto cut for background noise as it cut out what you were saying very often. hope to catch you both "in the verse" as we say in Star Citizen.

Yeah, it was always going to, and there's a lot of misinformation about it which doesn't help, but it's not all undeserved. I think if people go into it with a realistic expectation and a bit of common sense (eg only spend what you're prepared to pay for it's current state, not what is promised in the end version) they'll have a tonne of fun. Although complaints about lack of gameplay loops are valid, It does a lot of things that are just unseen in any other game, that are impressive as hell, and there's a lot of room for goofing around with friends, as well as other people in the verse, who are more often than not very friendly.

There's a lot of dissenters for Star Citizen, and a lot of the complaints are perfectly valid, but at the same time there's a lot of misinformation and hate rallying done by the media about it. Overall the game is way over it's initial development time, with no end in sight. Development certainly seems to lack organisation, and a lot of features are getting constantly pushed back. Ship prices are also really high, although they are all available in game for the price of an initial game package. On the other side, the game does some amazing things you just can't see anywhere else. The detail in the ships and environments puts professional flight simulators to shame, and in the current state, although buggy, there's already more content than the majority of AAA titles. It's often called a scam, and yet the amount of work being put into it is way too much for a scam. Mismanaged maybe, but nobody who knows what they're on about can really justify calling it a scam. I think one of the major issues is that both the devs need to set, and players need to come into it with realistic expectations. Unless they have the disposable income and are prepared for any setbacks, people should only invest in what's currently on offer, not what's promised in the future. This is the game many of us have always wanted, and both Chris Roberts, and much of the dev team are very passionate about what they're doing, but there's no guarantee they can pull it off. I'd recommend hopping on when they have a free fly event. They're pretty frequent, and let you try out most of the ships for free, and get a feel for the game. Explore around, chat with the community and just mess around for a bit.

There is no 46.000$ spaceship in-game. The most expensive is 2.5k and requires 50 players to operate. Maybe you confuse this with star atlas.

Warning: don't start playing Star Citizen. It will eat up your time and the probability of addiction is very high. 😅 It is full of bugs and you will be annoyed all the time. But you will keep coming back. I've been in situations like this, it isn't scripted. You can do whatever you want, you're not bound to anything. It is the ultimate sandbox experience.

Speaking of Star Citizen, you should check out MandaloreGaming's review on the game and its development. It's... interesting.

I backed it 10 years ago. I don't care about it anymore and don't think they'll ever release it.
