After Helsreach, Grimaldus would only engage in combat as a unit of 1. By himself. So that he does not have to live through the pain of using his squadmates once again.

The blurry images are not only a blurry memory, but a suppresed memory, not PTSD or shame but depression. Grimaldus wanted to die, found a place to live but lost it all again, wanting to die again. Fulled by hatred and vengance, pain and sadness, the fury of the Emperor. Now a little noblebright for your grimdarkness. The two soldiers that kissed both survived, Andrei even lived long to see Grimaldus once more. The Astartes Chapter at the start, with the wolf symbol, was specialy made for the wife of the writter, since she loves Luna Wolves, Aaron decided to create this chapter to emulate them only for his wife, a true gentleman.

In the full book/audiobook Grimaldus' final speech was originally said by his mentor, Mordred. Grimaldus recites it several times in the book but with the lessons he learned he alters it to make it his own.

Warhammer 40k is one of those weird gems in Sci-Fi to the point were its actually a bit Sci-Fantasy lol. That being said its a wonderfully dark universe with as much depth as Star Wars or Star Trek and I'm glad as a fan of many years that it is becoming more known and apricated. Fun fact, the armor of the Black Templar have a unique ability to draw out leaders, war lords and bosses for a 1v1 fight. Thanks to Sigusmund. The First Emperors champion. He slaughtered over a score of Chaos warlords and arch demons during the siege of Terra.

In case no one has explained yet, the big gun Oberon managed to finally bring @27:30 is basically a Nova Cannon. These things are usually only found on capital class void ships, but can be put on land mounts like the one seen here. In terms of how strong these things are, they can wipe out multiple void ships at a time by causing damage ranging from massive plasma explosions to opening small black holes. They’re basically the void ship equivalent of a shotgun. To put it simply, even something as massive as that gargant (which was named Godkiller) doesn’t survive a hit from one of these.

"Your friend, your love... did you find her?" *punches wall to feel manly* But did they survive?... Yes, they are breathing and such, but definitely a part of them died. The old Grimaldus died, as he said he would, and a new Grimaldus emerged, changed by the events. The same can be said about Andrey, and perhaps the other few survivors as well. Maybe, a small hope remains, that the Guardsman couple survived (the one that had half his face damaged). At least that's my head canon.

It’s confirmed they survived in the next book. So yes, little victories in this grimdark world. Also you get more Andrej and Grimaldus buddy cop duo in the second book.

At one point he is officially recorded as KIA ('Blood and Fire') only to inexplicably pop up on the Templar's flagship demanding to be paid. Grimaldus suspects something is up by the end of the above novel and sets him another "impossible" task (get to a shuttle several kilometers away before the ship breaks orbit).

Grimaldus is The Truth. The two most powerful women on the planet from opposite sides of the spectrum (Science/Spiritual) said he has beautiful eyes and decide to fight to the death alongside him. I'm not sure what it means but it does leave an impression on me.
