In Elden Ring you can write messages for other playes. Those messages consist of words that you can choose - they cant be freely written. As there is no word for "turtle" for the messages, but there is one for "dog" so turtles where called "dog" in the messages of the players.

Watching the videos in the release order (following the playlist) makes sense, especially because i don't think you have played the game at all, i think it's the best way to have a good grasp of what is going on, and he mentions it when new info made him reconsider things he previously said. And there is two playlist he made on elden ring, the one you are watching which are lore videos, and the other is his 'prepare to cry' series which are more cinematic videos telling the stories and the different endings of the game. They are all a must see in my opinion but i recommand watching some more general lore videos first.

6:30 it's pretty much exactly that, can't believe it only took you like 5 minutes to pick up on that. I don't think Vaati ever gets into it, but there's some pretty neat observations to be made about how the Rise of Marika and the Erdtree parallels the rise and christianisation of the Roman Empire, with all the conquest and syncreticism that entails.

Vaati is a wonderful source of tastefully produced lore deep dives for games with stories as obtuse, ambiguous and esoteric as those found in the Soulsborne Franchise. Definitely would recommend looking into his Bloodborne Videos. That series isnt connected to the Souls Series by any lore, it just shares a general playstyle format

Some comments on your comments, Loren. 1) Ranni did not fought Maliketh to steal a fragment of the rune of death - she stole it rather sneakily, with nobody every figuring out it was her. A character named Rogier is the only person to figure it out, with the help of the player of course. Maliketh, being a vessel of Death itself, was known as the God-killer and to face him in battle was a suicide even for her. It is no wonder he is one of the strongest bosses in the game, with an item that was created specifically to parry him - an item that no one had ever used prior to the player. 2) From my personal experience and understanding of ER's characters - it does not appear to me that Ranni assassinated Godwyn out of any ill-will towards him specifically. He was just a coincidental target. The real goal was performing a certain ritual at the moment of his death which allowed Ranni to shed her mortal body - an act she performs out of sheer spite against The Greater Will, not willing to even walk in the skin she was graced with. It is for this reason that she now assumes a form of a masterfully crafted doll - a vessel she appears to be able to leave and reposes at will, leaving one guessing where is she hiding whenever not in the doll. 3) Players' characters - The Tarnished, descendants of (literally) disgraced Godfrey - essentially carry the role of invigorators of The Lands Between. When you show up - there has been basically nothing important going on for years if not centuries, with everyone living in the ashes of The Shattering Wars, in which there were no victors. Your task is to kill everyone who matters (with full backing by The Fingers and The Greater Will, might i add), get their Great Runes back and then ascend to the role of Lord yourself in attempt to do something about all of this. Marika, it appears, did not really care what kind of future you bring - only that you do. 4) In retrospect: this means that fighting Godfrey is basically like fighting your Great Grandpa. Very much from his own initiative, might i add - he literally only fights you because he sees you as a worthy opponent after everything you've done up to that point (and a little push from The Greater Will, who literally *points* him to you for completely incomprehensible reasons).

4) actually I think the greater will/Marika intended we collect all the runes and have Godfrey defeat us so he can become Elden Lord again. That's why the grace pointed to you in the boss intro cutscene tasking Godfrey to defeat us

3:23 the elden ring is a physical object. it can be touched, handled, and broken. in fact, the way you alter the rules the elden ring enforces on the world is by adding or removing pieces of the elden ring. for example, when marika became "the vision's vessel", ie, bearer of the elden ring, she pulled the rune representing death out of the ring, making everything influenced by the ring's power immortal. i mean, the shards of the elden ring are equipable and consumable items. your character can literally lift them with their hands and crush them.

The Elden Ring is the laws of physics and such. But it is the physical place where the laws of the universe are written down, and if you change or remove them in the Elden Ring they change for the whole country/world/galaxy/dimension/etc.

I hope you continue to do vaati videos. I love him and elden ring is among my favorite games ever made so it’s a perfect combo. He has the best lore deep dives out of almost any soulsborne KZbinr. Age of stars is my favorite video of his but none of his videos are bad by any means!!

The greater Will is long gone i think. Its in it's nature to bring order to a world and then it goes on to the next planet. I think it's a test to mankind if we have the will to survive, or it was in the first place before Marika and the Tarnished and all that things.. For the next part of the journey i would suggest the Prepare to Cry series made by Vaati and his team which shows the best NPC quests in the game and their endings..also their meanings.

As masterfully produced as they are, take it all with a grain of salt, because Vaati gets it wrong so, so, so extremely often. Not to his fault, the game is made to be absurdly ambiguous, not really holding meaning behind things you'd think are important, and as such it's mostly for people to especulate, create more engagement and keep the game alive. 99% of the community is just as silly as Vaati in his hot takes, they simply don't have such a big platform or production value.

@@ChicagoReacts I don't watch enough lore videos to have a favorite but I steer clear of Vaati ever since it was proved to me that he took other people's effort and republished it as his own. The 2 videos that convinced me were called: "Vaatividya - Patreon Supported Plagiarist (Re-Upload)" and "Discussing a Community [Redgrave discusses Bloodborne Plagiarism by Vaatividya] (Mirror)" if you ever want to watch them and judge for yourself. Both videos aren't longer than 32:30.

Vaati analysis good but still bad at the same time there is many holes within them even after the dlc but ohh well once someone giving you drawings and animations all too well and consider to be the guy while half his analysis are wrong He never touched upon how Ranni's dead body looks close to Marika and there is a possiblity of Ranni being Marika as Marika's body pierced with distand death and her body unreponsive until Radagon takes the control of the body and more likely cealed the tree so no one can figure out what is happening along with Ranni's body being changed with a doll so her Main body does not show her true face he never touched upon Radagon dogs as a sign of him visiting places as Radagon was inside the carine school he left his dog there and inside Nakron 2 places that has big part of soul transport and passing as it is more likely Radagon came back to the golden order and sent Marika's soul with the black knife assassin's who have connections with Marika magically serving Ranni to kill her son (which is not true) because they destroyed Godwyn soul and Ranni's body but 100% if not thousand Ranni's soul becomes Marika's either before using the death rune or after because Ranni is showing 2 faces 1 is cealed as Melina's Eye once the choas ending happen that ceal disapper and shows the gloom eye queen eyes Marika cealed Ranni's soul as she did with the gloom eye queen but ohh well no one would take this as an idea and most people would stay confused

This is rabid nonsense. Ranni's features aren't distinguishable because her body has been on top of a tower, exposed to the elements for 500+ years. Ranni's body was not "changed with a doll" she discarded her flesh and used Godwyn's soul as a sacrifice so her soul would remain free. She needed to be bound to something, which is where the doll comes in. We do not know why the doll is fashioned after a witch she knew in childhood, we do not know anything about the witch. I have my own theories, but you won't see me acting like they are definitive. Ranni and Marika hold no relation outside of Ranni being one of Marika's children (as the game says, all Demi Gods are offspring of Marika). I don't even know what you mean by her body looking like Marika's. Ranni wasn't pierced with an actual shard of the rune of death. Ranni was quite tall, but her mother is 12 feet tall, so that explains that. And there's nothing else there. The rest of your rabbid essay makes no sense, none of those are even "theories", just something you came up with and made no attempt to look into, yet your defaming a man who has made his career of thoroughly dissecting lore. All of what you typed is extremely easy to dispel, none of holds up under any amount of scrutiny. And I guarantee you, if you actually watch Vaati's videos, you will find all of that dispelled by him as well.
