@r3ck0rd I'm sitting here just thinking 'bout Bud A man, a magical inspiration There's nothing in life I can name Like Paris with Bud in the rain The man who really taught us how to play bebop piano Nothing will ever be the same Now some folks think that Bud is a beer I hear ridiculous allegations But Bud was a man with a heart Though pain tried to tear him apart A genius and a soul that gave a special inspiration Talking about Bud Powell, one

The tune and the performance of the tune are absolutely phenomenal. You know, not everyone can hear great music.

@r3ck0rd Day, I saw him take a trip from Copenhagen so far away And though I never heard from him again Rememberings of a spring when music played Let's make it a new day Don't think of a blue day I dream a true day free from suffering and sorrow So take a tip and listen to Bud Up there on a cloud just like a Buddha And let yourself sing with your heart No don't let them tear you apart There's always someone there to give some special inspiration Talking about the man Bud Powell

Upon listening to the original of this tune for the first time, I got excited "This is the Jazz tune I've been looking for." Easy to understand with catchy melodies, but still much exciting. And this play even proves that the melodies can actually be sung. Jazz melodies can be difficult, and are often so. Many critics say that the most exciting part of Jazz music is improvisation. I don't consider it wrong, but recent Jazz tunes tend to have very complex and difficult melodies (and harmony of course), which is sometimes pain to non-artist audience such as myself. Chick's "Bud Powell" has proved that Jazz tunes don't need to be complex and difficult to entertain audience.

Lyrics by Cole Porter? Oscar Hammerstein? Ira Gerswhin? Just kidding. Chick + vocal music don't mix, but, man, I love him most of the time otherwise. (Love Bud too!)
