Chick's closing thoughts: “I believe that each one of us is basically responsible for the condition we’re in. Whatever abilities or lack of abilities we find we have, we’ve had a definite hand in bringing that condition about, and we can change it. Each of us has the power to make things happen, and we’re the only ones that can truly cause improvements with ourselves and with music and with our lives. So when you decide to study, when you decide to expand and improve, take one thing at a time, accomplish what you set out to do, set out to do things that you can accomplish and win at, get all distractions and counter intentions out of your way, and go ahead and win. I know you can. What else is there to do anyway?”

To me he had the prettiest technique of all the pianists I ever watched of any genre or style. It was just a joy to watch how his hand movements flowed smoothly and effortlessly through each solo and chordal passage. Rest in power Chick, thanks for the music and the inspiration.

I love his approach to music. For so long i've been extremely terrified of coming back to music with passion because I was giving myself to much to handle at once. Out of all the teachers i've heard, he has the most gentle and calm approach to what can easily become an intimidating endeavor :)

You've got to love the honesty in this video. When John and Tom hear the tune for the first time you just know there's no preparation or fakery going on. Just wonderful to see how they figure it all out.... Also Chick's approach of going with a flow and figuring stuff out later is perhaps the biggest take away for me.

@isiahbuda94794 жыл бұрын
@@monsterjazzlicks In short, microtonal stuff is just notes found in between two keys on a piano; they aren't in the conventional western world's 12TET system of music. So you can have things like a 3/4th sharp note, 1/4 flat, and really anything that isn't an "in-tune" note. It's pretty cool stuff!
