An extraordinary & improvised duet that is so complex yet complimentary each man's intuition. Very profound.

I got so excited when I saw this, especially given that Chick was influenced so much by McCoy, as was Herbie. But, oh dear. This is one of those instances when the sum of the parts is way less than the individual elements. But that's ok - two pianos together is not the easiest combination to get right in any genre, and maybe had they tried again, it would have morphed into something special. Oh, well, nice document for posterity, which I didn't know existed. Thank you for sharing.

I think this would have been more successful if Chick had been playing with the McCoy Tyner of the early to mid 1960s. Tyner’ s playing changed radically over the years. At some point Tyner moved away from a leaner, more bop oriented approach into a much louder, expansive sound with more dissonance, pedal and tremolos. McCoy occupied so much sonic space that I think it would be really difficult for any other pianist to play a duet with him.

McCoy Tyner piano is so loud and he plays so strong that I can hardly listen to Chick Corea. 😮😮😮

For piano duets, both players have to think like accompanists. The experiment is mostly a disaster, except on rare occasions, regardless of the calibre of the players. It’s such a curious phenomenon because at the highest level, you’re dealing with people with exquisite ears and taste. Maybe the sight of two pianos causes some sort of metaphoric aneurysm!

You could just lay back and walk a bass line.

They don't play well together. McCoy could play less. Music is a conversation. Where's the listening and the conversation?
