Paula, hafa adai from San Diego! Thank you for always sharing your recipes and techniques. It's been a while since I've been back home in Guam and I have learned from you what I failed to learn from my mom and nana when I had the chance!

Scarlette Delatorre Scarlette, thank you for your kind words! I'm very happy to share what I know. Our food is such a big part of our culture, and I'm grateful I have the resources to teach. Take care and feel free to write any time!!

where do you buy the molds for the cups?
@GuamMamaCooks11 жыл бұрын
Hafa Adai! There is....I used only one mold, but the handle could hold two molds. I didn't want to make too many; and the batter would have to be doubled because you would need a bigger container to fit the two molds. Yes, a minute is a long time, but these shells stay so crispy in Ziploc bags for at least 5 days...and they are delicious!

Paula, this is so awesome. Do you know of maybe someone or a grocery store that would sell these ready made? My friend brought us Chicken ala King for lunch and she her family brought them from Guam to her.

Hi Rita, the ingredients is listed in the video....but can only be seen when watched on something larger than a phone....a KZbin bug. If you look under the "Show More" tab below the video, you'll find the recipe as well. The first video is for the batter, the second is for the filling. Thanks for watching!!

It seems like you have quite a bit of oil for cooking with one pastry mold at a time. Even if you had both molds it looks a bit excessive. Is that much oil necessary?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Chicken A La King? I've never seen that at any of the fiestas and parties, my family has had! That's way far from Chamoru food. Make some real Chamoru food like Chicken Kelaguen, Red Rice, Tin Nak Tak, Hagun Suni, Escabechi!!! The only chicken a la king you'll find on Guam is in a can!

Good gracious, peace out!

No disrespect, but you were too young to experience it, when it was a staple on the menu during fiestas. Also, it is okay to borrow... in fact it is normal for all societies to borrow from outside their culture because what each group/country does is put their twist (according to their palette) which becomes their own. For example, Spam Musubi is a Hawaiian dish "OR" is it Japanese or is it American? Think about it, neither ingredients come from Hawaii and those whose created this delicious dish- were they Hawaiian or were they immigrants to Hawaii who identified themselves also as Hawaiians because it is the only home they know? Regardless of the truth, Spam Musubi became a Hawaiian dish that may not be traditional, nonetheless part of the Hawaiian cuisine. Peace out!

It browned so much because of the sugar content I guess.

Yes, it's not so sweet, but does have a bit more sugar than most recipes....makes it stay crispy.
