This was great, thanks, I been tryin to find out about "chicken coop for chicks" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my neighbour got great success with it.

Just a quick note to those watching...the tarp that he has over the chicken coop is silver on one side and dark on the other, if you want to keep the chickens cool...put the silver side facing up to reflect the heat and visa Versa for keeping them warmer.

Yep, I sure as hell wish my grandparents were still alive on my mothers side. I remember thinking how run down and old everything was, random junk everywhere, had to grow their own food and had livestock... what an idiotic child I was lol. Amazing people who were totally self sufficient all their life, farmed, raised livestock, traded and bartered, I saw many a block just such as that holding things shut and many wire gates with two wire loops holding the gate shut, the bottom one to set the pole in, and the top one to pull over the top of the post, Tada! KISS method in action.

I saw a video about raising free-range rabbits once, and the owners allowed tall weeds to grow and then they didn't remove the stalks when the weeds were dead. It looked very unkempt, but the rabbit person said that raptors hesitate to swoop in and attack when they are obstructed by all these vertical 'sticks'. I imagine there are a million ways to install 3' sticks around the chicken yard and make them look attractive. Paint them all, install them in a pattern, top a couple with solar yard lamp thingys, or just use dead branches which would look natural and lovely too. This won't work against snakes or weasels or foxes - they don't enter from above.

We've used the 1"x furring strip/wood block/etc for years. It might look old timey but it is simple for shed doors, coop doors, etc and you don't have to fumble in the dark. Just spin it and voila! Too smart for predators yet simple enough for me.

Ha! At the end where Jaime was asking the ducks for love was all too familiar - I have a tom turkey named Harry, and I walk around telling him "one hug Harry, one little hug, come on" - while he makes sure to keep 2 steps ahead of me at all times. Otherwise he follows me around, but no touching!

I also have a question. I "think" I've watched almost all of your videos. Have I missed why you call your channel (your farm) Guildbrook Farm? I have always wondered that. Is it a family name or a street or what? LOL Inquiring minds you know. Not trying to be nosy. Just always loved the old barn picture and wondered where IT is and where you got your name.

+theIAMofME - We just thought it was a cool name 😏. Hints of Tudor era homesteads.

Okay...but where did that barn pic come from? It's shape, it looks so much like barns of way back where I live. I am in rural W. Tenn. That barn looks so familiar to me. Anyway. You don't have to answer. I understand I'm sounding like a creepier. LOL I'm so NOT. I just love that barn picture. It's pretty awesome. Love y'all's channel. G'nite.

I scaled down my operation by building smaller pens that move every day by hand, I put 30 birds I and I have an egg drawer that's easy to maintain, I keep an electric wire around the base, nothing ever gets in, our dogs won't go near the pens.

Have seen changes in my birds as they mature. My best roo, who devotedly watches over his flock of 17 lady birds, was a stinker in his youth.
@joansmith34927 жыл бұрын
Nice Goose. I think you made it easy for raccoons to open your coop doors now. Hope you keep your fence on at night. I've heard if one gets in, it will kill all your chickens in one night. Those little latches are a pain. I took them off my coop as well. I opted for sliding bolt gate latches (a bit pricey at $7-8a piece) and use a carabiner to stop raccoons (I don't have an electric fence).

We have discovered some of those things also. We started out with nice hardward\e but slowing changing to homestead solutions. Eds cool. Did you get him as a baby? Did you raise when with the chicks when they were babies or were the chicks full ground? Since we are new to your channel we do not know theseimportant answers. We want to get a goose but our chicks are all grown.
