Great video, most people never concentrate on how to get the lock correctly, always see people with there palm on the shoulder and struggling

I used that exact technique on three different people and it was the easiest thing in the world. It's perfect for getting immediate control. Good lesson.

Great to see someone teaching a proper technical hammerlock! Good breakdown. I'm used to calling this a hammerlock, and it becomes a chicken wing if you use your free hand to pull their thumb up (if you start to lose hand-chops-elbow position), I haven't seen your Restraint and Control DVD but I'd imagine you'd include either that or similar failsafes for the technique. Thanks for a quality vid!

The reason in movies and tv shows as to why the lock is done improperly is for safety reasons. I did stage combat for years and we used similar techniques in show but made sure we were placed off target a bit so as to not hurt each other if out of sync.
