My next door neighbor loved receiving eggs from my flock. Rang her door bell the other day. Her hubby answered the door and said ohh you didn't hear. She passed away last Thursday from Covid. When that hit my ears I started sobbing....couldn't stop it was bad. All my Covid anxiety came out at that moment. I had to run away. Thank you for your mental health story. It helps💕

Thank you for sharing your experience in such a real and human way. We live on a Greek island. I too was having vivid memories of my childhood when we all got covid in December, including my 89-year-old Dad who lived with us. We both loved gardening and taking care of the chickens together. Unfortunately, he got pneumonia as well and had to be hospitalized. One of the last things he asked before he passed was if our brooding chicken had hatched her eggs. Funny how our furry friends and their life cycle get intertwined in our psyche. God bless Chickenlandia!

Oh I am so sorry you lost your little one and I’m so glad you shared your Covid experience. My family was able to avoid getting Covid until January of this year. You are the first person I have heard that had those ‘crazy’ childhood memories. I too had them and I too used to make those same deals with God. I remember saying if God could just do ‘xyz’, I wouldn’t complain about going to church on Sunday or I wouldn’t say any bad words or I’d be a better sister - lol etc etc. This whole Covid thing stinks. While my husband and I weren’t too bad, I actually lost my dad and my mom ended up being very very sick but is recovering and just started getting back her taste. Losing my dad has been heartbreaking. After we just became chicken parents in 2020, my husband had built my parents a coop and we were going to start them with chicks this spring. We still will get my mom the chicks, which she will love, but we were hoping it would give my dad something to enjoy so now it will be a bit bittersweet. But anyway thanks for sharing your Covid experience. I am glad you have recovered - take care and keep educating me!!

It is never childish to mourn for either a human or animal, especially a favorite "pet"! So very glad you both are well and very sad for your lost chicken. Omicron was the safest so far to get (I got Delta pre-vax availability, morbidly obese but D @54ng so no symptoms but mild anosmia!), as vastly more are having asymptomatic and mild cases, though people are obviously still dying at lower proportions. Get your D level high, above 50ng for best protection from colds/flus or even potential repeat Covid (and also prevent/lessen a host of other CovidComorbid conditions!) Just now remembering a very serious, always present professor who weirdly didn't show up for class one day. We stood around in the hall crassly joking about how his dog died, and in horrible irony discovered that that was exactly what had happened! I feel your pain.

Im so sorry for your loss. My chickens are my babies and I know how much you love and adore your chickens too. It is so hard when one of them passes. On 12/18/2020 my 7 chicken flock became a 6 chicken flock when the remaining chickens murdered my favorite baby BockBock. When my husband found her he called me and I ran to my run and I picked her up and held her close to me for over 2 hours balling my eyes out and wailing rocking back and forth. If anyone but my hubby saw me they would have thought I was either morning the loss of a human or was absolutely off my nut!! I still cry about her. They really are amazing and sometimes very loving beings. I know she was. That said, they can also be ruthless to each other. Darn little velociraptors!! Thank you from another Washingtonian and chicken lover. This stuff is so hard...I lost my dad and baby brother back to back in the season of Covid (not due to it) but it certainly added, so unfairly, to all the fear and stress. I am the family 's caretaker (still caring for my disabled, grieving, elderly mom). I said to my husband after my brother passed "I think I need to hatch and have chickens, again". The feeling was so powerful. I had had them years ago before a divorce, etc (I liken that time of my life to the movie "Legends of the Fall") I have 6 acres withe coops, buildings, etc, that just crumbled when I could no longer do all things by myself. My current hubby (of 9 yrs now) said to me "OK, let's do it"! He worked his butt off rebuilding things for me to have chickens...and our sweet birds have saved us. I would not have made it, especially this last year without him or them. My mom lives on the property with us and I use one of her bedrooms for my incubators and hatching...she is so excited when they pop out and peep. Chickens are so special and healing. Thank you again, and please take care. You touched my heart big time today ❤️🥰🤗

Powerful message about trauma being experienced by all sides of this situation. About your vivid memories while battling covid; fevers really, really mess with your head. The last BAD fever I had I hallucinated the ending of a book I hadn't yet finished. Not in a predictive way but more of this weird "had to put the book down because the fever made me tired and my brain sort of just continued the story". It felt like I was watching a movie. It also made me feel like I was 7 feet tall when I would get up to walk around. Yeah. Fevers are no joke. Glad you're family made it through. Also I'm sorry about losing Grape :(. Losing an animal companion is like losing a family member.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's just heartbreaking when you lose one to an illness and you've done everything you can for them. It's been a rough year for many chicken keeper's. 🙏 🕊

I’m so so sorry for your loss you are a gorgeous human. I know exactly what you mean about that ‘not quite here’ feeling. We avoided covid too but got it over Christmas and my fears of it attacking my body as I’m immune suppressed …well they were cemented. I could barely walk as I was in so much pain but the only thing getting me through it were my hens. I had to rely on other people who wouldn’t recognise the little signs of illness in my hens like me. Turns out I’d never notice either. I’m currently house nursing one of my older hens who suddenly went down with Canker. Fingers crossed we are now getting answers on how to treat her x

This video just popped up on my feed today. I have been ousted by most of my family and some friends over this covid issue for not putting something in my body I didn’t feel was safe for me. It’s really sad what’s going on. I’ve had covid. And the psychological part I think for many can be brutal. My chickens are just over 8 weeks old and I was so sad honestly to put them out in the coop from the garage brooder. They really bring such joy. So sorry for your loss 😢. And thank you so much for doing what you do.

I had CV19 February 2020. It was flat out bad and like you said, weird psychologically as well. I'm still experiencing what they call long CV19! There is no doubt that thing was manufactured to do more than make you physically sick. SO glad you shared and sorry you had to experience it and for your distress and missing pet. xo

I had covid in Dec 2020. Later I was looking for a detox for the spike protein in the virus & the shot. I learned about a substance in Eastern White Pine needles that detoxes the spike protein. I collected a lot of needles, & froze them in bags. I make a tea with a few tablespoons of needles for 12 oz hot water & steep it for 15 minutes. Maybe that would help with long covid.

Amen, Dalia. We are dealing with some sort of trauma. We all need to be kind and love each other. I have a roostet who has wry neck and it takes me about an hour to feed him, hydrate him, and just spend time with him. People tell me why don't you just cull him and save your time every day. But you know I take that time when I'm with him to talk to God or hear worship music. It has allowed me to slow down and show love to my favorite 🐓 who can't walk anymore or lift his head up to feed himself. We are all in this fight together and need to pray and show love. Thank you, Dalia, for sharing and caring.

Thank you for sharing your message and sorry to see you lost little Grape. I'm still irrationally scared of Covid even though I know many people who've had it and recovered. How me and my partner have escaped so far I don't know as we both come into contact with a lot of people in our jobs. I'm so happy to see you have made a good recovery.

I'm so sorry about Grape, so hard to loose one of our flock! I am glad that you are all doing better. It's refreshing to actually hear something new or a different perspective on the pandemic. It's so easy to just think of it in black and white, right or wrong, this is a good reminder that there is so much gray in life!! Thank you being so vulnerable with us, and sharing your grief and pain. I hope you continue to rest and heal!!

Oh my goodness, thank-you for sharing! I 100% agree... no matter what side you are on, everyone is struggling in some way from it, whether it be losing family to it, job loss due to choices, not being able to spend precious time with family before they passed due to regulations, etc. So many times on social media I see things like people mocking people who have lost family from it or laughing at people who lost a job from not being vaccinated, etc. I love your message to be understanding that everyone has experienced trauma. ❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost a few flock favorites to old age over the winter. It was devasting. I'm glad you guys are on the mend. The only thing that started giving relief for my covid anxiety was that I started raising bantam d'uccle chickens. I didn't know how rewarding it could be. It was my first successful incubator batch. 🥺💜

That happened to one of my young ones 2 springs ago. She was supposed to start laying and I thought she did but it wasn't her, it was her sister. A week later I found her dead in the nest box. 😔 I was so upset it was my first personal hatch I thought I did something wrong but its apparently more common than I thought.

@@WelcometoChickenlandia it was sad but thankfully hasn't stopped me from hatching. I've only lost 1 chick since then but it was doing poorly from hatch so I was expecting it. Sadly owner chickens comes with preparing yourself from unexpected loss occasionally. We still love having them anyway!!!

Sorry about Grape😞, you’ve been a wonderful help through my first year now of having chickens, absolutely love them! Made it till Christmas when my husband and finally got Covid, luckily it was mild and we made it through ok, it was different though, I could tell this was foreign and odd. Having the chickens helped because it made me get off the couch and keep moving and get some fresh air. But I did loose my grandmother at the end of October, and my father was also hospitalized at the same time. I’m grateful for your stance on the Covid issue, we do all need to stand together and be there for one another.

One thing I've been able to do is stay out of my own head. This is just the beginning of worse things to come so we better pull up our big girl britches and take the punches. My daughter had a missed miscarriage and trying to let go of the baby ( physically ) homeopathically 1st. I lost 2 of my hens last week and I absolutely hate my job. Sometimes I just don't want to even be here anymore but we have to stay strong. The light is there somewhere and there's always someone struggling worse than me. We just need to brace for the worst 😥
