Chickens Cooling Down in The Pool!

I literally just walked in the house from buying my chickens 2 kiddie pools. One for water and the other for dust baths full of sand, organic potting soil, herbs, DE, sulfur powder, and wood ash. I googled if it was okay to use a small kiddie pool for chickens and ran across your video. As soon as I leave this comment I'm going back out side and putting some stones in it and sprinkle their treats on it. What a genius idea. And I will have to pick up a cute umbrella. I love what you did.. such a great idea. Thank you for sharing.❤

Oh yay! That’s great! I do make sure it doesn’t get mosquito larvae or anything in the water, so spray it down as needed (you can also use a dollar store brush to scrub!). For the dust bath pool - if there’s any chance that it can get wet eg from a rainstorm, drill some holes in the bottom so that it can still drain! And DE becomes useless when wet, too. But you have great ideas and it’s going to make such a difference! ✌🏻❤️🐓

I have a question. I'm from Weslaco Texas. My question is do chickens get sunburn on their comb and around the eyes.

Hi! Good question! Honestly if they were out with no shade all day every day, it is possible. I think it would show up as more of a cracking/bleeding rather than a burn. But if your flock has somewhere to go and get out of the sun, there’s no need to worry. ❤️

How do you keep the pool from getting super dirty? I feel like my chickens would fill it with poop and shavings and dirt within the first few minutes. Do you cover it when not being used?

The best way to keep the pool clean is to not have chickens! Ha! Mine will just track in a little dirt at a time due to whatever is stuck on their feet (after we run the mister). I spray it out about every other day but I don’t bother covering it, though of course you could. And hey for that maybe even get a kiddie sandbox because they usually have a lid!
