Chickens in kiddie pool - pass or fail?

One thing we did with our girls and they loved them was made them freezer pops with meal worms and watermelon. They loved them.

We have done that with corn. That’s a great way to stay cool

Try adding a couple of rocks they can stand on, might make them curious to check it out.. last summer we used a shallow bin the size of a litter box with a couple inches of water, our girls were skeptical at first but eventually they got in and loved it. Helped so much in hot weather!

Thank you for posting. You guys are so good to your flock. The little music thing & the mirror cracked me up. ☺️ We used a big clear plastic tray with about five inches of cool water with big chunks of ice. We discovered that chickens will NOT drink even luke warm water when it’s hot out, so we go out several times on hot days to dump their water & refill it & we freeze big Tupperware 3/4 full of water & sugar fee all natural electrolyte drink for ice to put in their water. We also discovered that they like a wet area that they can lay in to cool off. We sprinkled an area & they scratched around & nestled right in.

I have some bricks in mine just covered in water. Also, ice cubes in the water. They love it.

😂😂😂 I did this before I watched any videos and I put one of my chickens in there and she did the same exact thing 😂😂. She just stood there like that for a few mins and then hopped out. It did look like she started to lower herself down into the water a little bit, but she did this exact same thing 😂😂

It’s basically a staff infection so any cut or scrap can let the infection in.

I literally just filled a kiddie pool with water and put it with my chickens. I have no clue if they would use it or not sooo I decided to come look on here after I put it in there with them 😂😂.

I just did this with my chickens then found your video. I put most of the flock in. Same reaction. Most just stood t here but it did cool them off. I noticed they were surprised but seemed to like it too. I think the pool walls are too high. I'm going to try to get a smaller one that is shorter. I think that's freaking them out. I put steps made of stones but it's probably going to take some training. I'm in Florida and they need to learn to do this because it's very hot in the shade.

@@graybeardgarage9638 Oh that's cool. Man today was hot. I'm in central FL. Yeah chickens aren't into water, but I wonder if we'd have better luck with a smaller one with shorter sides? I've seen them at Tractor supply. I'll have to get one and just see how it goes.

We have thought about lowering the sides as well. We put out ice in trays for them and they love that

@@graybeardgarage9638 I saw that. I think it's a great idea. I have very similar trays. I have them in the freezer already and will try that tomorrow.
