Our cats, dogs, horses, cows all got along because they where there. Even our lamb blended right in and of course started racing with the two dogs to greet the school bus. Love seeing chickens out and about.

Another good use for chicken coops id for cats and kittens that may need to be confined or separated for some reason. My daughter is in the process of acclimateing 2 very young kittens to her farm. She first put them in a cleaned out horse stall, but one is getting out and the stall keeps them from interacting with the other animals. Which was great for the first week. The coop keeps them safe until they get a little older and get used to their new environment. Great for introducing them to the dogs and it keeps hawks from getting them. They can safely check out the animals around them, while having a safe place to hide or check them out through the wire. So she can move them back and forth between the two places, and turns them out when they are outside to keep an eye on them. My other daughter has used her coop for puppies and dogs that need to be temporarily confined.

Thanks for the update! I can't wait to try these. I have always believed that allowing chickens to free range as much as safely possibly is so good for them. Better eggs, better meat, which makes them better for us. Not to mention how it's just good for the farm in so many ways. Love y'all! Have a blessed day!

Tried growing the purple and pink sweet potatoes this year. It was a bust. The web site said not to cut back the vines and let them do their thing. Well, they did their thing across my yard and over the neighbors fence. They loved the purple vines. So that part was a success but I think the plants spent so much time making vine that they forgot to produce potatoes. I got a half of a 5 gallon bucket full from 9 plants. Next year I will keep them in their raised beds.

Thanks for sharing the video on the Freedom Rangers. Right now, we're just getting started with a variety of different breeds of chickens, but as we move forward, we'll be gearing toward one or two breeds. Eventually we hope to have anywhere from 300 to 1,000 chickens on our farm, all pastured and organic of course. We'll certainly have to consider the Freedom Rangers. Again, Thanks for Sharing!!!! i quickly learned 2 downsides to free range chickens, #1 is that you cant have a garden and free range chickens unless you fence in the garden! #2 is that you have to easter egg hunt every day and as soon as you find the nest they move it! i now let mine out about 3 hrs before sunset every day.... they will go back in at sunset and i just close the gate sometime before sunrise!!!

Jeff Logue free range does not mean unlimited range. If the birds have access to pasture, bugs, Sun, wind, rain, fresh water, and plenty of room, they can still be considered free range and be confined to a specific amount of land. For example, 100 chickens can be indefinitely run free range and limited on an acre of land. That is free range. If you’re still opposed to any form of confinement then it’s a personal philosophical choice. Letting chickens run free without any form of confinement is an additional risk to the chickens themselves. By providing a form of enclosure you provide them with a form of protection from predation as well. Chickens like to have their eggs in a safe place. If you raise them to laying age confined into their coop and small run with access to nesting boxes they’ll lay in there. After they start laying in the coop you let them free range into a larger protected area. Your problem with the Easter eggers is a problem specific to them, that’s one of the reasons why they’re called Easter eggers. Yes the eggs are colored, but they also like to hide them everywhere. When you get them laying in their next box, try leaving one or two eggs in the nest overnight for them to lay the next day, if you clean the nest out they’re more likely to move it. You can buy some ceramic eggs and paint them to match The eggers colors and only ever leave the fake eggs in the box so the birds think the eggs are still safe. Or get a different breed of bird.
