I would recommend keeping the cc feeder fuller. If they went through their food in 20 min then they are not fulfilling their meat potential. You can make an auto feeder with multiple holes or remove the hanging feeder and add a feeder such as the hat kind that Justin is using.
@SowtheLand5 жыл бұрын
Not sure how much bigger they would get if i fed them more. Since it would cost me twice as much to raise them. Maybe that’s another experiment i can do. 😬

Congrats on making trending! I wish more parents would steer their young children into learning how to prepare nutritious foods. It probably would help eliminate our country's obesity problem. Mud pies to edible baked foods is a great progression. Do the Cornish Cross and Freedom Rangers get along with each other if put together?

i think chickens are the biggest way to improve your homestead besides may running water or electricity. Chickens provide food in meat or eggs, they compost amazing, they can work the ground, they are easy to man handle if you need to catch one or move them by hand, require little infrastructure, and pretty cheap to buy and feed. Win win in my books!

Funny about the time difference, you posted this an hour ago, your. Don't blame you for looking at the sky, that just shows you're aware. Glad you're trending. I've wondered at the difference in the breeds. It will be interesting to see if there's a difference in taste. Meat used to be pasture raised. After the second world war someone got the idea to stick their head in a trough, pump them full of hormones and antibiotics. Of course they're standing in their own poop and if one gets sick, they all do. Having seen it, it made me wonder. That's enough for this rant. Appreciate what you're doing.

How do you train the birds to go to the bowl of water to the bucket water with nipples?
@lenellamaxwell69345 жыл бұрын
So I liked your experiment between the two breeds I agree, they both eat the same amount of grass. So with all of that, which do you prefer? It looks like it would cost less to feed the Freedom Rangers because they don't eat all of their feed. So, I am curious of which one you like best? Do they both weigh out the same in the end? Thanks for sharing. Blessing!
@SowtheLand5 жыл бұрын
I will explore that when we butcher both birds. Thanks!
@jazfarm57265 жыл бұрын
I just sent 15 Red Rangers to freezer camp. Not impressed. I don’t like how crosses are kind of frankenbirds but you can’t beat the production vs feed ratio. I’m trying Jersey Giants for an ongoing supply we hatch ourselves but we will likely always buy and raise crosses for the grill and more involved cooking. RR taste great, but the energy seems to go more into feathers than meat. They will be good soup and stew..

did rangers and new hampshires last yr. slow grow cornish this yr. both were totally free ranged, and the ranger and new hampshires were much better grasss and bug eaters then the crosses with us. the crosses are lazier, and much more feed eaters, and MUCH dirtier in my opinion. bigger at processing time, but nasty also. we are doing rangers again next yr, i like more of a chicken chicken, then the crosses... blessings

I am curious come culling time if you are gonna do a taste test comparison cause they always say that grass feed animals taste better than grain fed. If one type eats more grass than the other I wonder if that type will taste better than the other or perhaps there is no difference?
@4philipp5 жыл бұрын
I think if the freedom rangers eat their feed slower than the Cornish crosses, then they are more interested in grass, not feed, while the Cornish will just eat anything

I only eat bird and fish. I don’t do beef. I will eat deer if hunted. But birds and fish, because they can fly and swim. And humans can do neither. I also think gnostic speaking, food should remain “kosher” as clean and unclean go.
