Elector PSP was the only thing that got rid of the mites. I kept vacuuming out the coop and putting down de. They came right back. One dose of Elector PSP on the chickens, soaked the inside of the coop and sprayed the outside of the coop. I even sprayed the ground and now they are gone. I have a lot of wild birds that literally fly into the coop, so I will keep treating until I find a way to keep the wild birds out. It was so distressing to see the mites on my chickens. PSP is very expensive, but it lasts a long time. There is a lady on KZbin that sells enough for one gallon.

I have a decent run and let them free range in the yard everyday and all day on weekends. I think she has been doing it for quite some time. It started out as a small patch. I thought i had a mite problems but it must have been when she started doing it. She only does it to him, and he lets her do it. I think its a bad habit that she formed because she likes to be around him and groom him alot. Im gonna keep her separated for a week and hopefully she will cut it out. If i let her out and she goes right back to doing it im gonna trade her.

So upping the protein percentage in the feed is okay all the time? You said you use a 20% protein feed , will you use that indefinitely? Right now our hens are on a 17% feed… same brand you pictured… we had a rooster that caused some damage to feathers on our hens, one more so than the others… we haven’t had him now for a few months but the one hen still hasn’t grown back her new feathers..

I hope raising their protein stops the problem, that poor girl is almost naked and it has to be painful to have the feathers snatched out. Thankfully I don't have any girls missing feathers and not a lot of extreme bullying. The pecking orders were established months ago, however I will be integrating young point of lay pullets in with my layers in three weeks. I've had them side by side in big runs, so hopefully no major problems. It's gone well doing this way in the past. Maybe you could get the high protein powder the weight lifters use to sprinkle in their food, just a thought.

I have 19 hens and 2 roosters, they are 11 months old as of today. It started with one hen and within a week half my chickens are losing feathers horribly, mostly on their backs. They have protein, space, nutrition etc... They have a large coop inside the barn and a very large run, both completely wrapped in hardware cloth and we really don't have predators. They seem very chirpy and happy. I don't see any bullying going on. I would think that at 11 months they would be to young to molt? I live in the South, would they molt in February? I really would appreciate any answers you could give me. Thank you for this video!

@@CountryLivingExperience thanks appreciate the response I'll look out for that didn't think of that another one might be pecking them out when they're on the roost because I don't see them pecking at each others feet when they're outside.also your videos are a big help being new to raising chickens.
