This videos shows another Mooney CDL Training video on how to parallel park a truck. The Mooney videos cover pre-trip inspection, backing and driving skills identical to what you would learn at a truck driver school.

Hello Mooney, I know this is an older video but the information doesn't run out of date. I wanted to thank you for this video. Today I passed my backing and road test and got my CDL. I failed my first two parallel attempts using the skills my school taught me. Using their method I was coming in too sharp an angle and had a hard time getting it in the box without using my pullups and get outs. Since this was my final attempt and I didn't want to fail again using the same methods they taught me, I used your method of counting to three, moving the steering wheel all the way in the other direction while moving and noticed I came in at a smaller angle to the box, which is what I wanted. I then placed my tandems on the left white line, turned all the way right, then left, and was in the box with no whistles from the examiner. I then pulled a bit forward and right to straighten up. Stepped out of the cab, my first time, walked around the truck, gave the examiner a grin, stepped in the cab and pulled the highway horn. I had several people watching me and they said I looked like a PRO, and I felt like one too. Guys I didn't even know standing there saying DAMN. I want to thank you for helping me get past the parallel and getting my CDL. Take care, Paul

For those new drivers out there, it is rare that you will ever do this maneuver but not impossible... for example. You will find that in some rest areas there is no pull through or even back in lot parking, but side parallel parking, and there will be a spot that you can do this maneuver on. Other than that ive never had to do this at all. This was a perfect example though. Well done on the video 👌

Back in 1979 when I took my (then) Class 1 triple Tractor Trailer license road test. I had to parallel park between two parked cars. I was in a truck with a box trailer and no looking back allowed and no do overs. We also had to stop several times on an very steep hill. No rolling back allowed. Plus back up perfectly straight for a block. I have used all those skills schlepping heavy equipment around NYC. When I worked for the Park Dept. My small Trac loader was kept on a large 12 wheel tag trailer attached to a crew cab dump truck. Every time I used that machine. I had to parallel park the rig against the back wall at the end of the day. The large Track loader was kept on a drop neck lowboy trailer. Sometimes you have a nice place to park. Sometimes you have to parallel park and side load. The first time you drive your rig down a Manhattan side Street, weaving around parked cars and delivery trucks. Only to find out that the street is blocked off at the end. So you have to back all the way back down the street and into a major street like 5th Avenue. That's what will test your skills. LOL Been there, done that.

Thank you for this tutorial, I went thru swift company "training" and it was an absolute nightmare where the students were left pretty much to train each other, on parallels and offsets we were told to begin by only turning the wheel one time opposite of whatever direction we were going, guys were ending up all over the place as a result, but by doing hard turns clearly makes more sense, I only wish I went with u guys instead, I am not any longer pursuing trucking, swift is a lousy place to learn anything!!!
@ryanwilson20386 жыл бұрын
Thats how i was told to as well in my truck driving school was to first start turning the wheel one time and then when i see the tape on my trailer to turn the wheel two times and then follow my trailer in and i must say that sometimes their methods dont work at all and also we the students basically were teaching our own selfs as well.

Great demonstration! Just remember future trucking friendz... depending on which state your in, their road tests differ in reference to how each inspection is performed. For example... in the state of New York, you are not required to open hood on truck; another example parallel parking is executed from passenger side.

Just a straight line reverse required for a B Double combination test here in Australia. Although, I think the Brits have a harder reverse for their semi test. They have to do a reverse that starts off blind side and around post in the middle of the reverse area before diagonally heading for a parking bay.

Truck stops past 3 or 4PM are usually crazy and full. I've had to parallel park between trucks who had to make up a parking space more than a few times. y'all, just because somebody else told you they've only had to do this kind of maneuver once or twice, doesn't mean you won't have to do it much much more

I find doing this on blindside is easier. Cuz when I go to look out driver side mirror i can see the truck behind me and determine when to cut in and straighten out. But that's just me and my method. Also GOAL at set points to make sure I'm not all up on the curb even tho it's easy to see when that's happening.
