When I took my Swedish CDL test I hooked the kingpin incorrectly, I think I forgot to raise the air on the car, so I was too low to hook on properly. I had seen this once during driving school, and I identified the issue right away, I tried to pull away once then told the driver tester I needed to disconect and do again, pulled the pin out by hand and pulled off, raised the car and tried again, and connected properly. Once in the car with him I nervously asked if I had already failed, he said he wasn't technically allowed to say but then seeing how nervous I was told me I hadn't, because they want to see that you understand the issue and know how to fix it, not necessarily get everything perfect on first try. They want to see us understand. I did the rest of the test perfect. I even got extra points when I used a buss lane to give room for firetrucks with blue lights on.

If the rear left most tire goes past the line, when the student backs in the trailer will most likely encroach on the right side. Stop just before the line or close to it. If the tire is just off or very close to the cone , the tire will need to be on the line. Where are you an instructor at?

Steve, again I'm thoroughly impressed. You instruct your students step by step, to follow directions to a science, correct them and explain why, all while allowing the student just enough freedom to think for themselves to better internalize mentally what they are doing each step of the way. I wish our school had a more designed approach to learning this craft. There's a lot of things you're doing here, and a lot of markings and cones that I'm assuming most schools aren't using. There's many good truck drivers at these schools. I'm learning more and more that there isn't nearly as many good instructors. Maybe their own school administration is holding them back from acquiring the neccessary TEACHING skills that should be required to instruct students properly. Either way, the student suffers for it, and the instructors will have tougher days in being successful with what they teach, more than is neccessary. Lastly, you're encouragement is genuine and your student corrections are direct, yet professional. Very impressive.

Cannot thank you enough for your kind words. Please keep me updated on your progress. Was you able to do the offset to the left? Mirrors properly adjusted. Do your setup- turn the steering wheel to the right fully. Backing up looking into the left mirror stop when the tractor is about at a 45 degree angle. Your instructor can help you with this. Also in your left mirror, you can see the trailer heading to the left. Next follow up with the right and back up until you can see the left trailer tires . You are now straight. If needed, make any adjustments going backwards. In the right mirror, you should be able to do the left line. Back up until the left trailer tire is just over the line. ( also once again, if space between the cone and the line is large- make the needed adjustments. Now the left tire is a little over the line - hard left to bring the tractor trailer into the left lane. Use your pull up If needed .

@@truckerstevecdlinstructor Oddly enough, I performed the best today on my 4th lesson than before, and my instructor was only a 5 year experienced Class A driver. She got her Class A at the same school, and during the same time I was going for my Class B. Now she's an instructor on the side when not driving trailers full time every week. You can't teach something like proper driving if you yourself aren't also a good driver. But just being a good driver won't guarantee you'll be a good teacher. She had a gift for teaching. A gift that most truck instructors don't have. You have that same gift. I hear it in your explanation and the way you instruct your students. You would've made a fine school teacher. Fortunately for us, you found your heart in truck driving and found an untaught skill in being naturally good at teaching others. Keep it up my friend. My class went better today, and although I have to leave for work soon, I picked up some graph paper today, and when I get home, I'm going to start visually and geometrically draw out my offset maneuvers with the aid of the graph paper. I've also asked my wife to help me find a proper toy truck semintrailer on Amazon. Does it matter if the front tires don't turn like a real truck? The truck I found at Walmart had fixed front tires, so I passed on it, figuring if the front steer tires don't literally turn, it wouldn't be much help in understanding how the tractor controls the trailer in backup maneuvers. Is this true, or it doesn't matter for a toy truck? Thanks.

At around the 9 minute mark. He said 1 and a 1/2 to the right. I just want to make sure. That’s the amount of spins on the steering wheel?
@truckerstevecdlinstructor Жыл бұрын
If close to the cone- yes really it’s about the trailer. Students need to react to the trailer not so much about turning the steering wheel.

Reverse offset. Backing back into the alley. ( looks like a blind side parallel park). The driver will put the rear bumper into the three feet box. That will be test number four. You will be fine

Whats the proper way to setup my big mirror and my convex mirror?.
@truckerstevecdlinstructor Жыл бұрын
The convex mirror should not have to be adjusted. The big mirrors on the right and left side, you should be able to clearly see the side of your trailer walls and the right/ left tandems. Also you should see the areas to the right and left of your trailer.

@truckerstevecdlinstructor Жыл бұрын
As you are backing in, you will have a left on: BUT entering the alley your trailer is going to the right! React with a right (trailer move to the left) quickly back with the left. Use your pull up when needed.

@@truckerstevecdlinstructor awesome thank you. I noticed he stopped,turned the wheel to the left,and then started going in to finish. I guess that works too?

If you in the left lane to get to the right lane you fully turn your wheel all the way to the left to start the process on getting the trailer in the right lane.
@truckerstevecdlinstructor Жыл бұрын
@@petter215jones yes- you are going to right. Start off with a full left. Back up about at a 45 degree angle. Day cab- look out the back tractor window. If the trailer is facing the alley, that enough. K

I am a professional Moroccan professional driver, and I have been working here in Morocco for several years, but unfortunately the price in my country is very deficient, as we do not exceed 700 euros per month, even though we work day and night and we do not have time to rest except for a few hours after we are completely exhausted, for example we sleep from 24 hours Only three or four hours and we work for the other 20 hours. I know that you will be surprised by this and you may say that it is impossible, but it is the truth, gentlemen. I have been searching for work in Canada or America for three years, but no one answers me. I hope to find someone to help me move there.
