The Mangalorean Chana Gassi recipe is an authentic dish of Mangalorean cuisine, which is prepared with ground spices and coconut. It is one of the famous Mangalorean recipes and it is typically eaten with rice roti or even with neer dosa.
INGREDIENTS:
Chickpeas - 1 cup
Water - 1 1/2 cups
Salt - 1 tsp
For masala -
Kashmiri red chilly - 6
Cloves - 3
Green cardamom - 4 seeds
Cinnamon - 1/2 inch
Coriander seeds - 1 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek/Methi seeds - 6 seeds
Black pepper - 1/4th tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
Poppy seeds - 1/2 tsp
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Tamarind - a small piece
Turmeric powder - 1/4th tsp
Water as needed
For gravy -
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
Garlic - 1 tbsp
Onion - 1 (small)
Tomato - 1/2
Ginger - 1/2 inch
salt as needed
