Chief this is one of the best review of the game anyone has done and one of your best reviews. I like your general insight that the game feels like you are roleplaying history and it leans more into the game than simulation. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Thanks Flavius. This Card Conquest System has a lot of promise. And I’ve been concerned that some of my reviews are going way long. I think in the future I’ll try not to dive too deep on the individual rules but try and give incite like I did here on my feeling of this being an RPG style strategic level WW2 game.

Totally agree with Flavius. Great review on what's unfortunately a confusing game due to rules being a bit sloppy / unclear.

At last a reviewer who actually made an effort to play the game. This game is a light, easy ETO game which quite frankly is a blast to play. Its 1.0 rule book is not good really, but there is a Word Doc on BGG that explains everything in 13 pages of rules. Difficulty is 3/10 on a GMT scale. Grading for me is 9+. Played it 5 times now... in 4 days solo. Both solo variants are great, although I liked the AI bot more. Your description of the game as a strategic role playing game is very creative and to the point. Great video.

Great instruction...Learned a lot....I read that several event cards can be used at once? How does that work?

Thanks Fred. I’m sorry it’s been a while since I played. I can’t remember the card interactions. Maybe another viewer can answer...

thank you for the fine review. Triumph And Tragedy Lite ?
@BondingWithBoardGamesRPGs4 жыл бұрын
Thank you xman...hmm I haven’t played Triumph and Tragedy
@PMMagro3 жыл бұрын
No. Triumph & Tragedy is three sides and mainly diplomcay and economy with hidden units (block units). This is on teh same high strategic level but two players and cardplay is not at all lie T & T (that game has different kind of cards etc.

I agree about the quality of the rules in Skies Above the Reich. It's one of the few solitaire games that, when I finished the campaign, I had a pretty good feeling that I didn't mess up anything major. Compared to that, the rulebook for Wild Blue Yonder, another recent GMT game, is terrible. Hopefully, they'll switch to style of Skies for all future games.

I agree Hedge. I think they know Skies rulebook hit it out of the park. I’ll be watching for more rules sets like it. I’m wondering, did one person come up with that rules set or was it more of a team thing?
@Hedgehobbit6 жыл бұрын
Bonding With Board Games The Skies rulebook reminds me of those Flipbooks for the D-Day At games that you can download from BGG. I played my first game of D-Day using one of those without reading the rules.

Nice job Chief. What is your experience solo vs bot vs. playing human opponent? thx Cheers. Mike
@ScotchTestDummies6 жыл бұрын
Limited. Played solo with me playing both sides. Figured out how the bot worked but just tinkered with it. Son jumped in and played a bit. Bigger question is do you like a lighter war game at that level and with the rpg strategic feel.

Sounds like it tried to be a WWII version of Twilight Struggle. Is that at all accurate?
@ScotchTestDummies5 жыл бұрын
Not really. Twilight for me is a different beast because you are trying to full out win in every theater. You just need a bit more just at the right time. It’s very subtle and sly. I got killed the first few times I played it because I was trying to dominate.

Gosh, Bart, I never realized how complex modern games could be. I liked your analysis of the game, which I think I understood. But the randomness of the game also lead me down a rabbit hole. In truth, I think I may be too old for this type of game. Just send me to Monopoly, and I'll put myself in Jail.

Lol. This is one reason I love the modern board game world birddog. It’s kind of like figuring out you like high rye mashbill bourbon and decide to try a rye whiskey and love it. You can find some game or whisky that hits your sweet spot and then dive deep and or poke around at the edges. Bart

Nice, review. Is it fun to play?
@BondingWithBoardGamesRPGs6 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. As long as you don’t mind two things. History may not play out historically and it is game not simulation. Both of which I enjoyed immensely. It also allows for a little bit of a sandbox feel with strong structural boundaries (the event cards you fight for). Bart

Play /try the game not the rulebook. The rulebook is very bad indeed. It makes easy things seem complex and gvies you no real understaning on how gameplay actually is. The gameplay is good though with part planing and hand management (events etc) with added cardplay AND dice to make it always a risk/chance. Obviulsy relesed unfinished/unedited. The comment WW2 roleplay is spot on. It is a WW2 themed cardgame.
