Chiefs' strategy: Holding back for postseason success?

I personally think this is something that doesn’t get talked about enough because it’s really hard to prove unless Andy admits it. Andy has transformed throughout his career. With the eagles they threw out everything and the kitchen sink during the regular season and hence why they fell short in the NFC Championship. I think he learned from that and some shortcomings in KC that have led to these results the last 3 years.

good point. I definitley think they are holding back it's just how much. What I didn't understand is they should have been able to run down there throat and they were getting 4-6 yrds up the middle which I think they will do in the playoffs.

Yes for sure It’s exactly what I have observed the 2nd half was not a mormal half for the Cheifs they did not play their hand of offense, not throwing to Kelce, Deandre & Worthy saving them for future games. They played their 2nds instead including shuster. No better way to give the 2nd’s reps & throws to see how they were coming along then against a good apponent. Shuster, Steele, Watson, the new tightend & gray. Very clever by Andy Reid. The you had defence so the same thing. They knew Josh was going to run they wanted to see how their players would go in tackling Josh & see how the Bills coaches run play would play out.

Andy proved we could have beat the Bills with the touchdown series if we had wanted to. I agree with you guys that we didn’t show our whole play book. Go Chiefs!!!!!!

Andy has been playing it close to the vest because he could. Went a tad too far, bit him in the ass. I don't think he really cared all that much. If he and Nagy don't turn Pat loose soon, I imagine Pat will take off on his own, as he has done in the past. Don't blame him one bit. They got here on Pats wildman style. Its what most people come to see. EB knew this and let Pat go nuts a lot more. Does he need to be that crazy rookie who scared the shit out of everybody? When needed....most certainly...and to the utter delight of crowds everywhere.

I think they had one possession where they played completely differently than they did the rest of the game. That was the drive where Worthy was key. They zipped down the field and scored then they backed off.

Agree. I think the chiefs would be better playing back yard football. Go get open (see Tyreek) and Mahomes will find you. Sound crazy? What could it hurt.

The cheese did not play this one close to the vest they literally emptied the clip I saw a ton of things both offensively and defensively they haven't done all year that I think they had been saving for this game. The fact that it wasn't enough is concerning. I think kc was hoping to win this game lock up the one seed and start preparing for the postseason.

@@TheGrump51 the bills started jamming worthy it's not like they backed off it was he couldn't get off the line of scrimmage. They also started capping his routes vertically and of course he's just a rookie he has no change up the bills! took away his fastball after that drive.

Mahomes has pass rushers in his face immediately after snaps. He cannot watch them and look for WRs very well. Also, he is staying in the pocket too much. I suggest he scrambles more as he did before. Andy's play calling is not good. The designs of plays are weak, blocking on plays is atrocious. On the Chiefs defense the pass rushers routine is to stand up and dance with the OL of the other team. How about put a spy on Allen, every time you play the Bills?

The reason theyn didn't go back to Worthy, and why Hopkins got less than 50% is that this was planned. They proved to THEMSELVES that they can use Worthy like a BEAST. Do we think Andy is trying to call plays that are a bit too cute for the roster right now? Feed Hunt and DHop. Get Kelce involved. Bread and butter. Go back to Worthy after the failed deep ball. He was stellar on that scoring drive. I don’t want to question Andy because he’s the best coach in the league but sometimes I do think he’s trying too much with the personnel he has.

This was a classic Andy Reid regular season snub game. They shut off all their productive plays as soon as they knew they were working. I don't they care about the regular season. The sloppy INT was a tell. Not playing Dhop, limiting KHunt and passes to Trav, trash balls to Worthy.

They even completely shut off worthy after the first half after he was connecting and the most productive player. Chris jones by himself rushed allen and we didn't have a consistent spy. Spags holding back too

Holding back!? Lol! Then by the same measure the Bills did not go deep into their playbook since we did not have our starting receiver, tight end and right tackle. It was basically Cooper’s 2nd full game after being out for the last 3 and Curtis Samuel was only playing because of the injury to Coleman. You guys are acting like this was a preseason game smh.

We beat Bills in Orchard Park, in the playoffs, so I am not sure why we didn’t have that game at Arrowhead. But the Chiefs looked like ass on Sunday. Play calling was putrid.
