You read the responses and criticism of the game and its a copy paste set of complaints mostly from people who haven't played it. Those criticisms are not of the level we see people discuss films or literature. Gamers are an extremely toxic group. There are people who don't like the story rightly so if they don't like this kind of horror. But to claim the game is dreadful and a piece of crap is embarrassing. We rate functional fun games with great audio, level design, graphics and performance highly when it comes to games like resident evil 2 remake but not the same here. Resident evil 2 remake has a goofy shallow story oversaturated in cliches, but its still a great game. Its also only 8 hours long and has arkaic gameplay far inferior to the last of us. Despite this the game has redmeedimg qualities. We are know saying that only in this instance do we judge the game on its story only, it doesn't matter if thats the draw or not. It still deserves to evaluated on the same scale as its peers in the genre. There is also the fact some of us love ellies descent into madness as i explained. @@soup8786 %Spoilers in last Paragraph% Resident Evil 2 is a remake of an old classic, thats why is not judged as an actual new game first of all. Second of all, TLOU2 is a HEAVILY STORY BASED GAME. RE is not a great example because it doesnt rely on story. RE is about horror, survival, atmosphere and gameplay. While TLOU sacrifices gameplay for story, and that is not bad at all. There are games like Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls and Until Dawn that are praised for their story and their direction, same with the first title of TLOU. People were ok with its gameplay but were fascinated by the story and the charming interactions of Joel and Ellie. Gamers appreciate stories, and we are used to judge them accordingly. A heavily based platformer should mainly be judged by their platforming, a heavily based story game should be judged by their story. You can judge the other things the game has as well but the main aspect of the game should be the priority. Many including me, agrees that they dont like the direction they took with TLOU2, how many possibilities of making the story better were wasted killing Joel at the start, how the charm of the first game was gone, how Abbie's role in the story was disorganized at best, and many scenes and dialogues were awkward and unnecessary making the game feel unnecessarilly long. We have many games that have interesting stories to tell and are praised accordingly, many can agree or disagree because of how huge gaming is but that doesnt mean that "gamers aren't intelligent". They just dont agree with you.

Joel died for NOTHING. Ellie did NOTHING WRONG! Every one of Abby's friends provoked and attacked her even when offered mercy and she killed them in SELF-DEFENSE. And she is visibly traumatized and regretful. She only wants justice for Joel and to avenge his death. What would ANYONE do in a situation where their family member is tortured and grievously butchered right in front of them like that? Abby is a fundamentally evil character who relishes in the idea of inflicting pain and doesn't feel any remorse. And her father wasn't slowly tortured to death while she was forced to watch... HUGE difference. She was happy at the prospect of slitting a pregnant Dina's throat, and only stopped because Lev asked her not to. They used kids and animals to try and and humanize this irredeemable monster, which is the oldest trick in the book. But somehow Ellie is bad for wanting the same thing? Revenge? LOL Double standard much? The game tries its damnedest to present Ellie in the worst light possible to garner sympathy for a cold-blooded murderer who is unworthy of forgiveness. She gets off on the violence, the killing, Ellie does not. It's just this random metacommentary on the "cycle of violence", except said cycle is a contrived self-perpetuating prophecy by the developers. Once you understand this, any meaning the story holds withers away. This isn't some profound narrative, it's just a hollow platitude. The Fireflies were BAD too! They would have just used the cure to make themselves all immune. Ellie probably would have never even gotten credit for her sacrifice, and they would hold it over people and lord over humanity with their immune army with impunity and use it as a powerplay, as leverage to basically become the new order and take over the world. Ellie should be thanking Joel.

The whole point of killing Joel at the beginning was to get you upset and mad as hell and frustrated with the game, it’s human emotion, and then showed you the views of the characters and how their life’s were affected by Joel actions. I was upset and angry and didn’t want to play as Abby but as you play and you get to know all the characters you start seeing things different. The problem with this game is that there is a bunch of sheep, they made their minds up before playing the game and never gave it a chance. I think I played 2 times and I don’t remember killing more that 4-8 dogs. And when you killed someone and you here them scream was a nice touch, if you get shot on the stomach or legs you don’t die instant you scream and groan, that’s a nice touch to the games. The levels are incredible
@swordfish13902 жыл бұрын
Year old comment, I know, but I wanted to respond anyway. People aren't mad that Joel was killed off, they were mad because his death was STUPID. He's been a survivor of the zombie apocalypse since it began and he's learned not to trust anyone, yet he gets right in the middle of a room with a bunch of armed strangers and drops his name, knowing full well that there are likely people that are after him after what he did to the Fireflies? Abby is also a terrible character, she's an absolute sociopath that the game tries so hard to get you to sympathize with, but that's impossible when she's a complete and utter monster. She never shows remorse for killing Joel, she nearly kills Dina who was PREGNANT and only stopped because of Lev, and she ultimately doesn't suffer any consequences for her actions. Abby got her revenge and was spared by Ellie and now she gets to go on and live with Lev. So revenge is.... good? Oh wait, revenge is good for Abby, but it's bad for Ellie. 10/10 writing.

@@swordfish1390 you do realize Ellie killed Pregnant Mel right, Abby had every right to kill Dina and Ellie and let them live, so please explain to me how only Ellie is entitled to revenge? Joe wasn’t a good person, that’s the whole point you seem to forget , I guess you missed the part where he was part of a gang that would ambush people and killed them, I guess you didn’t pay attention when Ellie asked him how did he know it was an ambush. The whole reason Tommy and Joe had a falling out was because Joe was a bad guy. Joe doesn’t get redemption because he was selfish in saving Ellie, he’s the villain in the story and if not please explain to us why do you think he’s a hero. That’s what makes the story good, because even good people can do terrible things, no one is exempt. I guess you think shooting Marlene in cold blood was an act of heroism, gees I wonder why Ellie hated him
@swordfish13902 жыл бұрын
@@marioslrzn Ellie didn't know that Mel was pregnant until after she killed her, so that point is moot. On top of that, Mel attacked Ellie first and she simply defended herself. Also, I didn't say that only Ellie was entitled to revenge, you completely missed my point. Ellie seeks revenge, spares Abby, and gets punishment. Abby DOES get revenge, is never sorry about it, and suffers no consequences, so what's the message here? Is revenge good or bad? No, Joel wasn't a particularly "good"person, but no one is in that world and everyone is simply trying to survive. Joel didn't go around killing people just for the fuck of it. The big difference between him and Abby is that the game goes so out of its way to portray Abby as virtuous when she's anything but, while Joel is instead portrayed as not necessarily good or evil. but flawed. Joel was a good man who was forced to do things that no one else would want to do. You say that Joel was "selfish" for saving Ellie, but is Abby not selfish for getting revenge for her father? The Fireflies were willing to kill Ellie without even asking her to create a cure. Regardless of how you felt about Joel's decision, he did it out of love. He loved Ellie and didn't want her to die, no good parent, blood-related or not, would be okay with their child being killed like that. In fact, if Joel did just walk away and let them kill her, he'd be borderline sociopathic and it would contradict his character, as well as destroy the message of the game.

I legitimately had a hard time finishing this game. I beat it in around 25 hours, and was constantly checking my watch toward the end. Terrible pacing issues mar this otherwise solid game. TLOU1 is infinitely better because of it. Good story imo, just really hard to finish once you get a few hours into Abby's play though. Would have rather watched a movie, gameplay wasn't compelling enough to carry 25 hours. Not to say that the gameplay wasn't good, just started getting stale around the 20 hour mark.

Hmmmm,maybe they shouldve made like a second game called "abyys story" that wouldve made it wayyyyyy better.in fact,i think it would be more impactful if in the end,things change(you know what i mean) and the play abbys story,making you sad that you.......changed the ending...... You even got the satisfaction of changing the ending,so now that you did that,you would feel bad for your actions.

This is uncharacteristic of me, but I think the 5 or 6 people have been giving this game are actually accurate. You can have a gameplay based game with a god awful story get an 8, and that would be accurate too, because if the story is just a placeholder for gameplay, then it's fine for it to not be amazing. But TLoU IS a story driven game first, where the gameplay is just a means to get to the next story bit. A good example of this would be Death Stranding. I actually liked the gameplay, but I didn't find it amazing. To me, DS is a 8.5-9 game because the story comes first. So yeah, I'm sorry for Naughty Dog because the gameplay really looks stellar, but if the story tanks, then the whole game follows.

Why people hate the game and these reasons are not criticisms -People didn't get their fan fiction -Women should have noodle arms, even though there are bigger women than Abby -Joel's death in the beginning is objectively bad even though story telling is subjective -Guys view Joel like Nathan Drake - Its assumed you're forced to hate Joel and Ellie and sympathize with Abby, but the game's universe makes it clear there are no good people in this world - We need more tags with "SJW" "feminists" "soy boys" "access media" "Neil Cuckman" " I summed up everything you need to know. I'm addressing people who are review bombing the game and or don't know narratives and characters, but pretend they do. People who legit dislike the game are not the problem.
@millabasset17104 жыл бұрын
@UltraPlushie I don't hate Joel, he was irrational at the end of the original game but that's what most people would have done. I view Ellie's behavior and ambitions as an 80s action movie, much like First Blood, but it fits in the universe of the game. People don't understand, there are no heroes in this game, they should be judged as normal people. I honestly don't understand what people wanted for Joel to do, he's past middle aged status and won't be like Nathan Drake or Marcus Fenix plowing through mushrooms. Joel's death was realistic, a "blaze of glory" death is entirely cartoony and doesn't fit with The Last of Us. Rick Grimes got a blaze of glory "death" and people were justified in hating it. Abby is not a likeable character, bingo that's the goal of her existence. I found Abby interesting and its clear the game is more of her story than Ellie's. Abby and her gang were not being painted as the good guys, they were living their lives just like any other group of people would in that type of world.

What they could’ve done is release Ellie’s half as the second game and then release Abby’s as a side game, similar to infamous and uncharted

The second trailer of the game was already a red flag for me with all the torture without any context, but idk this game seems so disconnected in themes from the first one, revenge didn't motivate any character in the first game...

Not visually better than RE engine? It's incredibly more detailed than RE 🤔 That's the games greatest strength.

Is everyone just going to forget how terribly Naughty Dog treated their employees or did I fucking dream that shit, it never gets brought up, and now that we know how good this game is, it's sad to think that all the people who got treated like shit were probably treated in such away to make the second half of this game.

They could have just made a seperate mode like what the castlevania games do. Have the main story be just Ellie and then a separate mode playing as Abby. Although, they probably should have done a massive rewrite of the script to make it work well because you would still hate the character.

Playing as Abby for a small section, trying to get to sympathize with her might have worked, but for half the frickin game? Not even the section in the first game where you played as Ellie was that long.

Very brutally honest review out there you did a really really good job with this one part 2 destroyed the story for me and you explained perfect with describing how the second half basically felt like the other characters hijacked the last amount of time we could spend with Joel and Ellie

Why did they hide Abby in the story trailers and artwork in the first place? (Except for the torture teaser) She's a main character lol. And why did ND miss lead us in the trailers by putting Joel along Ellie in his journey? Such a disappointment

For me this is not the worst game of this generation. But it is definitely the most disappointing and easily the most anger inducing to me. I don't like Abby's playthrough, but I also don't like Ellie's. This whole story is a dumpster fire, and it's not helped by the bad writing and dialogue. After the first game I did not want a direct sequel. I would have been alright with another game set in this world, but with characters who have nothing to do with Joel and Ellie.
@InTheKnow0074 жыл бұрын
I think the game is fine, I see what you are saying about the second half of the game. To me though it is like getting two games in one, playing as a hero and a villain, both in one game. I just absolutely hate the review bombing and most of the reviews are from people who have not even played the game.
