The Last of Us Part 1 Remake Looks Embarrassing...

Gameplay recently leaked from the Last of Us Part 1 Remake. Many were turned off by what looked to be very minimal changes for from the ground up remake. Naughty Dog attempted to run damage control by releasing a features video of their own that failed to fix it.

When they finally, officially announced this game, I was SO excited. I loved the gameplay of part 2 and was pumped to have it implemented into part 1. I can’t tell you how excited I was to have at least a dodge mechanic in part 1. It would make a lot of the more stiff enemy encounters a lot more engaging. The fact that they advertised it as having “modern gameplay” and being “rebuilt from the ground up” and then excluding mechanics from part 2 is crushing. I feel if this gameplay hadn’t leaked, a lot of people like myself would’ve gone through with purchasing the game, only to be majorly disappointed

Someone that owns an early version of the remake already said it’s going to have a dodge, the build that was shown just didn’t have it. Same thing happened with TLOU2 gameplay, it was leaked and people were disappointed and then it proceeded to have the gameplay changes people wanted.

Unfortunately Sony will never let you buy a PS3 game from them again. They will continue too remake PS3 games to sell them on PS5 for $70. That's what this is really about. Gotta think about it business wise. PS4 games are the only games you will ever be able to upgrade for $10. Anything PS3 re-released will always be $70. This is the future of PS3 gameing. How ironic tho that if you own the PS4 version of this game, you can't upgrade it, that's because their justifying it as a PS3 remake exclusively.

Funny thing is that I actually wanted to get last of us 1 remastered with the ps plus service a few days ago and I had to get the ps premium plus for like 20 bucks a month, the 15 dollar ps plus service isn’t even enough for them anymore, because they knew that a lot of people would want to get remastered instead, I bet they are going to pull it off completely off the store.

Thr problem is the animations are still from the ps3 generation. It looked brilliant 10 years ago, not so on the ps5. Tlou2 animations are miles better. Also noone seems to be talking about the model changes from Joel and Ellie, they looked better in the original (fidelity aside)

All the Uncharted 1-3 stuff was pre-rendered as well, no one cared because it's irrelevant and it blends with the gameplay/doesn't look dramatically different (rendered with the same engine, using multiple PS3s). While the new version technically has better graphics in these cutscenes, the characters look worse. They look like different people, their eyes look dead, the animations look janky, and I don't get the same emotional impact from the scenes.

One of the biggest issues with this REMILK aka a remaster of a remaster is that a lot of the characters look a lot older than then they should I mean ellie doesn't even look like a 14 year old she looks like she's 17 years old not 14 and jole looks 55 instead of 48 also if this really is a remake built from the ground up why couldn't they add prone or dogging enemie attacks or add the jump button etc and it's like this guy said it doesn't matter if the game wasn't built for it because there supposed to be rebuilding and remaking the game from the ground up so they could build the game to support those functions and features also this should be a Playstation exclusive just like the original game was but now there also porting it to pc for extra money so this is definitely just a cash grab

6:27 Death Stranding did this, I bought the original on PC a bit ago and loved it. Like myself, Other than the points a lot of people make like "why is this being made lmao" or "why'd you choose this over Days Gone 2?" One thing that had me sort of liking the idea of this remake is some cool new level design, and as Sony stated when the remake was announced. 8:38 I wonder if they changed this map in this part? In the TLOU there is no path that narrow when Ellie tries to ride away with Callus. Till now I havnt seen many places where the layout of the maps got changed. I think to they should put everything into the game they couldnt do in 2013 and include great stuff from Part2: the dodge mechanic, smart AI with good RNG, dogs for the hunters, expand those short map sections ( especially in winter), etc.. They already have great graphics, a great story, dialogs ans soundtrack. Shouldnt be that hard to go the extra mile...

Part 1 is most definitely in my top 10 favorite video games of all time….but the only way I would have paid full price for a remaster 1.02 (which is what it is) the campaign would have needed 2 or 3 new chapters, new outfits that actually show up in cutscenes, new areas in base game chapters & fights where you could pit infected & humans against each other like in Left Behind & Part 2! The fact that this is just a better remaster reduces full price to around $29.99 for me which is the most I’ll be paying if I decide to buy it! PS. I totally disagree with you on Bloodborne though (another one of my all time favorite games) I would love to see even a good remaster for that game but everything you said about TLOU2 & the upcoming TLOU “remake” I totally agree with!!!

In my opinion, I would play the original The Last of Us on PS3 since it came out years ago. A little later, I probably play the remastered version of The Last of Us on PS4 which it cost less that the PS5 remake. The remastered version is also playable on PS5 through backwards compatible. I think that Naughty Dog should remake Jak and Daxter with visual upgrade and make it run at 60 FPS.

Furukawa and Bowser seem to at least care about gaming, though Bowser is nowhere near as transparent or inclusive as Reggie was so idk what's going on with him. I agree Phil Spencer is the most pro consumer, but Xbox has no games. Their holy grail was Halo Infinite and that game sucks overall becuase 1. no CO-Op 2. Battle pass live service bs and 3. After playing remastered this weekend it has aged like milk in some ways. Mechanically and story/acting wise is still a 10, but graphically it isn't very good. Things were popping up 20 feet in front of me, a lot of things just didn't look right and never looked right to me that throughout the environment. With that being said the fact they didn't have to hire actors back, didn't need a mo cap crew, didn't need writers, and I'm sure I'm missing other things they didn't need to pay for this should be $40. Comparison shots show how much work and effort went into remaking the world and making it look way better than what a ps3 can do but yeah $70 is hard to justify when they just had to build on a vision that already exists. This game probably took half as much to make as part 2 and therefore should be no more than $40.

I try to hold a philosophy with Remakes. I have two rules in them. The remake cannot have a retail price higher than $40. The remake needs to be different enough from the original to justify it. Since TLOU Pt I is basically a carbon copy Remake that's asking for $70, I'm going to treat it like a brand new game with an Above Standard price tag. Well clearly it's a remake, so it's not a brand new game as this is a PS3 game at its core. There's not enough changes to excuse a New Game like experience, so it's not worth of full retail price. The game has a remaster and all 3 releases are very close together. And the fact it's asking for $10 extra in a time where $60 is still considered the Standard meaning it believes it's not just worth full price, but worth more than that. So my conclusion with this remake is this game should be $30 at most, but it's asking for $40 more because it believes it's worth that amount when it clearly isn't. The only way I could ever call this a worthy purchase is if you're going to get it on PC and/or you never played the game before. Because at least with the PC version, it's not only a new experience, but you could probably create your own fun with it if the game gets mods. But definitely wait for a sale as $70 shouldn't be a thing for a remake.

I was really hyped for this release and fully on board to get it but seeing that it doesn't have any of the gameplay changes is a deal-breaker for me. That was one of the main things I was looking forward to, to have it play like Part 2, having all those cool animations and just feeling even more immersed in the levels. Part 2 gameplay had that aggressiveness to it and it felt so real, the gore was amazing too. Definitely skipping this one.

What exactly is the value for the consumer, especially compared to the alternatives? Was there even a demand for this? It doesn't help that to me, there's not much of a jump between PS3/PS4 original to PS5. Like there's diminishing returns. Compare this to Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition which is a Remake of the Wii game. A lot of people wanted to play the first game because of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (And Super Smash Bros Ultimate). Unfortunately the Wii Disc was out of print and now expensive, required the Wii U to play the digital rerelease, or the New Nintendo 3DS. Not exactly ideal. There's a clear quality of life to the remake. The remake also had value outside of consumer demand. The characters got entirely new models. There was a new campaign/epilogue "Future Connected" which revolved around the previously unused Bionis Shoulder map and topped off Melia's character arc while teasing Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Sidequesting and navigating the world was easier. The menus were revamped. There way to temporarily level your characters down so you won't be overleveled. Casual Mode was added for those introduced via Smash Bros.

I do agree with you, though, I think the problem which this game represents (and lies "hidden") is much bigger than it's price. Firstly, if you think about it, really, what exactly did they "remake" here? Naughty dog, basically went into their own game's source code, updated the models/assets (which most were taken directly from TLOU2) & maybe some of the game mechanics (which probably also were migrated from TLOU2). The amount "re-making" should have been relatively small. Now, I'm not saying that updating the original source code was an easy task. It's definitely within the scope of few months to a year timeframe (depending on the size of the dedicated team). But it's, by no means, the complicated, long and tedious process of making an entirely new game. Neither story-line nor level planning were needed. Also, voice acting had already been done and most (if not all) of the in-game designing/coding were just there already (ready to be "re-skinned"). Even most of the team members required for producing and developing an original game were probably left out of this. So, basically, this "remake" is actually the "remaster", if we put it into more correct terms, and the "remaster" we got for the PS4 was an export which supports higher resolution & higher FPS (should have been a regular PS4 update for the original PS3 game). Secondly, in my opinion, the price is non-significant. They're pricing it as an original title for the "new crowd" (it's an excuse, obviously) but it's gonna drop fast (maybe, really fast)... as you can see, from the case I was trying to make in the paragraph above, it's their business model and nothing new. Lastly, and the bigger problem (again, in my opinion), is that this remake is not being released for the PS4 when there's no reason why it shouldn't. Because, as we established, nothing in this "remake" is "Next Gen". It's a legit PS4 title, as much as TLOU2. And why is this a problem? Well, I think Sony has finally realized that while they wanted to keep the PS4 alive (by releasing the new Sony-exclusive/major-league/franchise-defining titles) for both consoles (and by that might be limiting the graphic potential/fidelity of the games), the PS5 ended up, 2 years after its launch, without no real leverage over the PS4 (especially the PS4 Pro). So, they asked (forced... who knows?) ND to make this (redundant) "Remake", to show the PS5's "mighty" power and it ended up being very much "Last Gen" (in every aspect)... A move which makes a lot of people I've talked to (including myself) wonder "why should we even buy a PS5?". And no, a tactile game-pad isn't a good enough reason.

I have an extremely hot take here. I just got done playing the PS4 remaster, and it's getting kinda old. I just did two playthroughs, and one on grounded. I got the platinum. After seeing the gameplay of the PS5 version, I'm actually surprised, I didn't think it was going to be a change, but it is. It's actually using tlous 2 engine. I don't think it's worth $70, but I think it has a reason for existing. I am looking forward to playing it on my PS5 eventually. I loved going back and playing new game plus on the PS4 version, and I can't wait to get all the trophies again on the PS5 version. What I'm hoping for the most is new trophies, and not a copy and paste of trophies. I am hoping that we will finally get a speed run trophy. I'm not trying to defend anyone, I'm just giving my honest opinion.

Everybody complaining about "SEVENTY BUCKS", meanwhile in Canada we've already been paying $80 standard for new games lmao, this is just the usual. Imo I don't know what they have in the full game besides what they announced, so I'm not prepared to go full Gordon Ramsey on a gameplay trailer until I see released gameplay. From what it seems this "remake" might be suitable for people who are purely content with visual changes, the hud, NPC awareness and maybe a sprinkle of additional content, otherwise I'm not sure what the fuss is about. If you don't like it, you don't like it, but people report on TLOU like it's live action news.
