People keep romanticizing that "its a dry heat". I'm from Arizona. Dry heat is much more dangerous than humidity heat. Sure one has the advantages of breathing better, however dry heat keeps you dry and you don't know you're severely dehydrated until it's too late: heat exhaustion, heat stroke or even death. Us smart locals don't play. We take the heat seriously. We know when to exit our dwellings for activities and when not to. This is irresponsible. There will be plenty of safer days to hike. I feel so much sorrow, that this kid didn't have a responsible Guardian to advise against this.😢😢

I do yard work in the mornings only and try to be done by noon, especially because the heat has been brutal here in New Mexico recently, which is right next to Arizona, so we have similar conditions. They were out late morning from 9 to 2pm without shade and probably didn't have enough water or they didn't bring any electrolytes or salt drinks with them. People aren't taught about our saline levels and how drinking too much water can deplete them when we are dehydrated. This is sad!

Child abuse. Just so you know, you need to drink like half a bottle of water (at least) every 20-30min in +90º weather. That's how much water you need to keep hydrated in hot temps. I looked it up to see bc I had to do yard work and I knocked down 2 bottles in hour but couldn't seem to keep hydrated. And I could tell I was dehydrated bc no matter how much water I drank, I never had to pee and water usually runs right thru me. You prob need to takine in 16oz or more of water every 20min in the 100's -that's if you don't stroke out first. I'm not in the desert but am from the South and I'm use to 100-106º summers -along with high humidity. And it has taught me to stay myself inside where the a/c is kickin'! Water and sweat can only cool you off so much. At some point your blood will literally boil and there's no help with that.

Vegas resident here similar weather to Arizona and I'm pregnant rn my Dr told me I had to drink AT LEAST a gallon a day of water after I told her ive been having dizzy spells. I'm from southern California 55% average humidity unlike here it's been 8% so not used to it but these dry heats are no joke! Shame on these parents so ignorant I don't understand how people go out with children and pets in these triple digits!

You're not hydrating in that heat with just water. You need electrolytes. Nobody ever mentioned s that, they just say water water water. WRONG! without electrolytes you are simply flushing out what little electrolytes you do have and making yourself more dehydrated.

I work in TV news and found it tacky to lead with a fire in California when you have the unusual and tragic story of a kid dying on a hike. Wildfires are a normal occurance in the state.
@MatchaKat94
@MatchaKat94 3 ай бұрын
It's a California news station. The story about the boy in AZ is tragic, but the state burning down around us is a little more front of mind for Californians. The fires are historically unusual, by the way. The frequency, size, duration and intensity of these fires are far greater than they were in the past.

Vehicle accidents kill 40,000 people a year, injure 400,000 people a year. I've been a parent for 24 years and haven't injured or killed anyone, most parents can say the same. On the other hand vehicle accidents killed an uncle, and every family member has been in at last one or more accident, even the kid who just started driving not long ago.
