I honestly wouldn't care what my main character is as long as he/she is interesting, badass or has at least some redeeming qualities. What I don't like is hypocrisy. :)
@fangeared9 жыл бұрын
+Gábor Molnár It's patriarchy because the female perspective is largely unrepresented. More often than not, the man is saving the helpless woman. Less often is it the other way around. It's not hypocrisy, it is recognizing that women are so underrepresented in media that the rare occasion they are is a step toward EQUAL representation. That's the goal. i have been following it since i heard of it back a few months. its so worth it, the art style and the sound track alone are amazing. i personally like the rhyming altho at the beginning it seemed forced but at the end its so much more fluid and so much better. im not a fan of turn based rpg but this is just enough away from that that every battle was fun and some got incredibly hectic trying to get an attack off and managing everything. one problem, or bonus as it was to me, is you can chain interrupt enemies if you time it right and i killed a few bosses like that but its part of the system.

The two big sins of this game (and the only) 1- The music being a little repetitive and 2- It was too easy, I'm not saying Child of Light should be a hardcore RPG with impossible bosses, but Child of light made something I've never seen before, making the teamwork of the whole party member useful, in combat, you can change your characters wherever and whenever you want, making it easy if one of them dies. But what if there was a boss so hard you would need everyone? A boss that would have a unique weakness against every party member. Of course you can still do that, and role play about it, after all this IS an RPG. The game is still a masterpiece IMHO It gets an easy 8.5/10 from me, this game is 40% art, 30% gameplay, 30% story And 100% -reason to remember the name- *Epicness!!!*

"It does just enough without feeling cluttered or ungamely." "Every aspect of Child of Light feels, unmistakably, artistic, organic and original." "It comes off as, exactly, the expression the creators intended." Please, someone tell this reviewer that his arguments were as loose as a knot loosely tied by a child. IGN reviewer, go and tell your verdict to your immature viewers. I think IGN's executives needs to re-evaluate their manpower. When making a review, on anything, you need to evaluate the object concerned in each category that it consists of (in this example Gameplay-Game mechanics, Story-Plot-Characters, Art and Graphics, Music - Sound Editing & Mixing) AND PRESENT ARGUMENTS on why do you find it to be bad, mediocre or good in each category. Every category has a different weighting factor (that differs from person to person) which, when multiplied with each category's score and added up with the other products of each multiplication, gives the overall score.

But that's a stupid and narrow minded way of looking at games. Some games are better than the sum of their parts, like a good strategy game with average graphics shouldn't be marked down fully if the gameplay is good. Things like metacritic ruin reviews, we need less numbers, not more. If you can't tell if you like a game without resorting to numbers, then you're the one acting like a child.
@stefanostsougkranis58519 жыл бұрын
Meracritic does not ruin reviews (even though they give bad reviews from time to time). You do it, with your tiny contribution in changing people's opinions to be, retaining the different and varied aspect, more logical and well constructed.

You May Remember Me From... Ttttttthhhhhhaaaaannnnnkkkkkk yyyyyyyyyooooouuuuu. I wish that they would get rid of rating systems like that. Games are supposed to be about having an enjoyable experience, when reviewing a game people shouldn't try to fixate on aspects of the game and how they fit the genre they're in like it has to be graded with a rubric or something. All that matters is did you enjoy the experience. I just want somebody to tell me what they liked about it without giving it a rating on a scale of 1-10. A numbered rating of a game isn't truly going to tell you if you'll have fun with it. Don't stress the numbers, just have fun.

***** exactly, reducing a game to numbers on a scale does a disservice to it, and leads to all these shitty 'well call of duty got an 8' type of comparisons, which ignore personal opinion and different genres. It feels like I'm playing Pan's Labyrinth, Cirque du Soleil, and some fairytale melded together. The artistic backdrops really impressed me and the battle system is great. The story is also good. I played it for the mystical atmosphere, artistic style, and story, not for the any other reason. I feel fortunate to have played this masterpiece.

This is a wonderful review, thank you! I just played the demo and immediately afterwards bought the game. Stunning.

Definitely one of the best written reviews I've heard from IGN. I love this game... definitely one of the best RPGs I've played in years. It's short, but it truly is an elegant and beautifully designed game.
@otimo14410 жыл бұрын
No they just happen to give it the score it deserves there writing was terrible with a pointless social commentary through out. This game is good in its own right not because "it avoids tropes".

A lot of the review seems to praise Child of Light for what it isn't, rather than what it is. That's pretty poor form.
@Pamjamelia10 жыл бұрын
What did you think of the game itself though? After that statement I'm just curious. I wasn't too interested at first but now...I might change my mind. I just hope there's a demo on PSN for me to try it.
@homersimpson9021010 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting RPG game that had a go at new battle mechanics like Bravely Default did. And it does some neat things with sound design and backgrounds. I was mostly talking about the review praising it for going against common tropes, but I don't think the designers set out to make a game that would specifically go against the grain and I don't think this should be a selling point for any game. All games should be evaluated under as similar a criteria as possible for what they do, not what they didn't do.
@Pamjamelia10 жыл бұрын
homersimpson90210 All right. I personally can't get myself in the mood to get back to Bravely Default for some reason but the new things it brought to turn-based RPGs made it astounding overall. I just have to be in a certain mood to play it. XD Again, if there was a demo I would gladly try it out. But I think I will wait a while.

homersimpson90210 this is the reason i don't trust reviews..... they might be paid to say good stuff or might be angry cuz they were not paid and cuss the game.

1:05 "The endearing of slightly forced shakespearean iambic pentameter reinforces the fairytales sensibility of the plot but kept me from being fully absorbed into the characters. " I like how they throw in difficult words and not explain it for a fucking VIDEOGAME which are usually meant for KIDS. I swear these 'reviewers' are trying too hard to glorify their fucking jobs

Amen. In the end, these people are only there to review something that SOMEONE ELSE created, they're middlemen and they know it so they everything they can to stand out, even carry on political agendas in game reviews.

It isn't sexist to have a man as the lead Character. Just because women aren't as often the protagonist in Films and Games doesn't mean that it's sexist if they're not. The gender of the character should only make a difference if the game wants it to from a storytelling perspective, just like the character's skin colour or height.

I love Child of Light. I think it has reached the height of Final Fantasy VI and Xuanyuan Sword 3: Beyond the Clouds and Mountains. In fact the style of Child of Light is so similar to Xuanyuan Sword 3, for a moment I thought the same team was working on Child of Light.

Why on earth would you need a boxed disc version, it's not 2003 anymore...
@poisonxindustry10 жыл бұрын
No use for a boxed disc version until it sells enough. I think if it sells enough they might re-release it next year on a disc. I'm sure the extra cost of all that being taken out insures them a better profit. That is if the game sells well and not end up like some other artsy fartsy game that sells 20,000 copies. But then again digital releases are the future. I can't wait until I am able to download games straight into my brain and use my Oculus eye contacts to play the game when I'm 65 years old while I'm in my automated car drone taking me to the strip club on the other side of Megalopolis that has Nuhuman dancers that are made of genetically engineered human skin for that sense of ultra realism.......Oh my god, where did I go with all of this. Oh yeah. No boxed disc version for you in the fore-seeable future.....or whatever.

This was a great rpg, @ time when ff13 had and other's really left something missing. I do feel that by 2013 you couldn't make a turn based battle system and it not be similar to another older game. I liked Grandia alot, but this game improved on Grandia foundation for a great battle system. The soundtrack, the story, the dialogue, the sense of never grinding, and literally being able to fly. I loved all of it. I found this female protagonist refreshing w/o any of lighting's from FF or shion from xena whatever cliche's. I really wish they would make a sequels

The game looks great but you're acting as if every single video game with a male protagonist is a power fantasy. You'll always find a way to inject your social "justice" into everything you can get your hands on.
