If your parents from a pat of India, you are inclined to at least visit a few times. In US, Guyanese and Fiji Indians look like Indians and speak Gujurati or Bihari. Hence the comment about fake Indian.

@dOVERanalyst
@dOVERanalyst 4 жыл бұрын
@@Theboriaquatic I know that. Many in the comment section have written about the Anglicisation of Pattnaik. Different people can use different spelling but in pronunciation there is a little stress on the T, even if you write single T. The whole point is : She was way more accurate in her pronounciation than Russel. He literally butchered the whole pronunciation trying to be more correct. He was incorrect. Many have also said the most common thing of naming a city nearby people know about, when being asked like this. And, since when are we Odias not allowed to stay outside of Odisha? When people stay in Kolkata, when someone asks where you're from, they will say Kolkata. She NEVER SAID she was Bengali. There's a difference. You can be Odia and staying in a different city. My Chinese friend says she's Odia cuz her grandparents moved here. You never know what one identifies as. But you can't debate on the chance of Pattnaik being Bengali. Thats not true. It's Odia. Even I don't use my traditional spelling. My grandfather used Mohapatro, aunt used Mohapatra and mom used Mahapatra. Pronounciation in Odia stays the SAME irrespective of the English spelling! Atleast traditionally, (because origin was being debated). Someone can say I'm not Rama, call me Ram, dude. But he can't say Rama is the most inaccurate root pronounciation ever possible. Russel is wrong. She's not Bengali. Left at 8, stayed 42 years abroad. Doesn't know about Kolkata. Very Likely I would say. Period.

@@Theboriaquatic Where are you from and what are you are two different qsns from what I understand. If someone asks me where am I from, I might say Mumbai, for example. But I would never deny I am an Odia. I know more about Odia language than about all markets in Mumbai in 8 years🤦‍♀️ She was a little kid then. Spent 42 years most likely never returning to Kolkata. How was she supposed to know?

Most of comedian here in Indonesia do the same like him, they said those lil talks with their audiences bring they own joys and happiness, how they get closer with the audience. The essential of this technique (riffing) more than just create content/comedy materials, memorize it and bring it to the stage. I thought in the end, all comedian will be in this phase (imo)

I have been to Kolkata twice. I don't know New Market. ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ୍ is the native Odia script It's double tt. पट्टनायक So, when writing in English you can write Pattnaik or Pattanayak but never Patnaik. Everyone knows Pattnaik is only an Odia surname. She's Odia. She NEVER said she's Bengali. If she came from Kolkata airport or her parents lived there... Someone coming at age 8 and never going back in 42 years, I guess it's fair she doesn't know anything about Kolkata. She sure pronounced her Odia surname accurately as we Odias born and brought up in Odisha do.

She "mom - Patanaik or Patnaik" seems to be in transit via Calcutta 😀 - thatswhy she never recalled New Market 😀 - US Visa then Calcutta Airport. Apparently she was not from CCU - it's a landmark for conversation. Nice One.....

She might be from another state in India right beside Bengal, it's Odisha since "Pattanaik" is a very conventional Odia surname 😄 But I know people from my state generally don't identify themselves as being one! Sad but true!
