The studio forced Don Mancini to write this one while Child's Play 2 was still in production. Don said he was completely out of ideas when writing, and that it's his least favorite in the series. I think Brad Dourif said it's also his least favorite. The 4th movie is polarizing, but it's one of my all time favorites and introduces my favorite character in the series. I hope you like the next one, but it is very different tonely to the first 3.

The kids were sent to Military school, I’m not sure if they are also used outside of America but they are an instatutiom that Parents can send there kids to if they are severely disobedient and don’t want to listen. Military school in America back in the 90's was for kids who didn't have a place to go or they may be going to jail. If you signed up for the Military you didn't go to those schools because you had to graduate high-school first.

Not a good storyline, Andy grew up and doesn't look anything like Alex Vincent, Not a fan of army movies (myself personally) bad acting by the entire cast, Tyler is way to old to be fascinated by a good guy doll (although Jake Wheeler made it work in Chucky), The killing of Chucky was lousy, Not to mention how do you go from military school to a carnival?

This was by far one of the better ones of the franchise. Plus that finale was fantastic, tossing Chucky into blades chopping him up, fucking hell. This movie was a classic of mine growing up. The next two sequels couldn't match up lmfao.

Because of the success of child plays 2. The studio put pressure on Don to make a third one and rushed it for a release. The studio wanted a time jump and wanted Andy older. Alex who played Andy in the first two movies was still a child, so they had to replace him but Don didn’t want Alex to be fully replaced so still used him in pictures etc. Don also hated the third movie, his heart wasn’t in it and was far too rushed.

Military School isn't the same as active duty Military. It's like ROTC. Edit: due to my above statement and Pug's obvious misunderstanding as to what military school is(no offense, Pug), I'd have to say quite a bit of his criticisms on that front are unwarranted. But the whole chuck mailing himself to the school and how unsafe that "ride" at the carnival was are legitimate gripes for sure and I agree with those. PS: Also it's worth noting that this movie only came out less than a year after Child's Play 2, but it's set about 7 years after the events of that movie, so to answer the "why did they change Andy" question, that's why. And it's not unreasonable to assume that the foster system pit Andy into that school themselves after repeated failed attempts to place him with a foster family. Things were different back then. Final note: also him criticizing Tyler just going along with what Chucky is wanting to do is also kinda unwarranted as well when you consider half of the first Child's Play movie is Andy just going along with what Chucky tells him. So there's that. Lol Still love ya, Pug.😁

Im suprised that no one's mentioned this yet but the reason this is considered the weakest link of the og 3 is mainly due to it being a copy and paste of much better movies with the same setting. The movie that this takes the most inspiration from would be Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece Full Metal Jacket (1987), right down to the iconic line (16:52)

Just FYI, going to military school doesn't mean you are automatically in the military. They just train you like you are. It's basically a place to get pre-military experience, send kids with nowhere else to go or where you send kids to be reformed.

I was in Basic Training in 2006. Army, training to be infantry. That whole 'this is my rifle' thing is real. So is everyone being a colossal asshole. This movie is a very tame look at what you could expect at Fort Benning in Columbus Georgia. Just with a lot more swearing, physical abuse and, y'know, not giving a shit when a recruit (me) has a heart attack/seizure combo.

Actually the WORST in the series is Seed of Chucky. But that's technically in the banner of the CHUCKY franchise, which does include the Child's Play movies, but don't necessarily go under the CHILD'S PLAY franchise banner. I know that's confusing. I'm happy that Don Mancini's heart wasn't in Child's Play 3. It ended up being one of the best films in the series because of it. And it's my second favorite in the franchise. The Chucky series starts it's decline with the terrible Bride of Chucky, then dies a certain death with Seed (which was 100% Don's fault). Curse, Cult and the TV show only work because of Fiona Dourif's unparalleled acting.
