Do you agree? We spoke to British deaf KZbinr Jazzy, to talk about the deaf community, what it was like growing up within an all-hearing family and how learning British sign language (BSL) can help deaf people feel included.
No matter what, Childline is here to support you. Visit the ‘Deaf Zone’ below to find out more.

My school had a class full of deaf kids and taught ALS to kids who wanted to learn after school hours. I made a friend with a young deaf girl but have lost contact with her after moving. I had fun learning to speak with her.

Well said. Hopefully when the new Act will encourage more people to learn BSL.

when I was in year 3 , my cousin found out she was significantly going deaf I wrote a heartfelt letter to my teacher at that time and nothing was done (I asked if we could learn bsl in school ) . I left last year ...they are teaching my younger siblings some signs now so I really grateful for that .I'm still learning bsl and will continue to because I'd like to be able to communicate with everyone around me no matter what

I am hearing and in currently learning bsl so that i can communicate with more people! I definitely wish it was taught in schools and i am going to suggest the idea to our school captain once they are announced. Accessibility is extremely important and schools definitely need to be more inclusive. I am currently a beginner in bsl but i strive to improve! Thank you for this informative video:)

I wish my school taught me sign language as I'm hard of hearing it would also help on the days I'm having trouble with my speach and can't get my words out properly.

I know right! If schools taught bsl then it would be soooo much better for deaf people and for hearing people! If it was a gcse then I would be straight there!!

This is the reason I'm trying to learn bsl, if one day I'm in a situation where I can talk to someone who uses bsl I can without having to write it down or anything

Jazzy, I have not heard from you in a while like few years. I remember you signs BSL with the song “Roar” I love your BSL. I watched that video few times and some others too. I can’t remember what it was. I’m hoping you could come back in KZbin. I thought you left cuz I saw your leg with some cast on. I’m not sure what you were using it. Anyway I hope you’re doing well so far. I learned some of BSL.

I'm not deaf but me and my daughter are Autistic and are nonverbal ALOT. Bsl would help ALOT but private tutors are expensive. 😢

Jazzy please set up a channel on KZbin that I can watch as I have been trying to learn some language for years, but never have anybody to practice with because when I attended BSL level one and two, I was the only male there and all the girls thought it was weird that I wanted to learn Sign Language.

I wish instead of a language you learn sign language that your country uses, e.g BSL. Because it's better to learn that then a language, and your more likely to use sign language
