Over 10 years ago, when I was 17, I was at my moms house (whom is the og randy fan of the family) and pulled an all nighter just watching randy videos. I've been to his resting place in California, and I still listen to his music like it just came out yesterday. I bought a white les Paul custom recently as a nod to randy and I still shred it up because of him. Now my daughter who is almost 2, will grow up with his influence and another generation of RR fans are on the horizon. My good people, rock on

Randy made this song his own, he simply could pull from a greater bank of knowledge than Tony, who is an all time great too.
@dustinteasdale6091
@dustinteasdale6091 13 күн бұрын
It’s not just a bank of knowledge, it’s a far greater level of skill. Tony is just like Jimi in my opinion. They were creative and innovative and had a vast influence over guitar players worldwide. When it comes to technical ability Randy, Eddie, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Dimebag Darrel and George Lynch to name a few all could play circles around them. If it wasn’t for the innovation and creativity that they brought in their time, then they wouldn’t be remembered as an all time great but only as a respectable player.
@johnhill762
@johnhill762 13 күн бұрын
@@dustinteasdale6091Skill isn’t everything. Innovation and creativity also hold a lot of weight. And on top of creativity, skill, and innovation, another great aspect about Jimi that Randy shared in was the ability to fuse different genres into new sounds. And many guitarists with insane skill, like EVH, just didn’t do anything spectacular when it came to creating a new kind of music. So again, skill isn’t everything. More than skill, what separates Randy from Iommi most is precisely that Randy had a much more complex understanding of music than Iommi. So yes, that bank of knowledge. It’s why Rhoads is greater than most guitarists, including EVH. The guy had everything: speed, skill, technique, tone, rhythm, masterful solos, a deep understanding of theory, extreme creativity, and an ability to fuse different genres together.

@@johnhill762 I agree on the "skill" thing , not being everything as well when it comes to rating a guitarist . So many think the more incredibly difficult someone can play something means they are the best !! Guys like Lynch and Vai , Gilbert , Yngwie , Satriani , while all masters of the skill level ! don't hold a candle to Tony , or Randy . Just like Yngwie never had the impact of Ritchie Blackmore . Because it's about creating something that is catchy .. that moves people . Rather than how many notes can i play in a measure . It's not as easy as to do as people think . Their is a reason players like Tony , Billy Gibbons , have bigger bank accounts than the ultra skilled shredders . Because it's not easy to come up with true hits one after another . Despite if they are technically difficult to perform .

Very cool, do you ever get to crank those stacks up? Little known fact about Marshall 100 watt heads. That power is rated clean without distortion, if you turn up the volume and get 10%-15% total harmonics distortion, basically add in the power contribution of each harmonic - a Marshall is pushing about 170-190 watts of power
@qua7771
@qua7771 3 жыл бұрын
I've heard of 50 watters pushing over 100. I don't quite understand how EL-34's can be capable of output that much electronically.
@voxpathfinder15r
@voxpathfinder15r 3 жыл бұрын
@@qua7771 it’s because wattage rating is determined with a clean output. Once an amp distorts, it is creating harmonics from the fundamental tone. In order to calculate the total power, you have to include the energy emanating from each harmonic. Most people don’t have the gear to calculate all that. Most guys can only figure out total clean power with no harmonics. But yes a 50 watt Marshall is pushing close 100 watts when it’s really distortion. Not all 100 watts is in the fundamental, only 50 watts. But close to another 50 watts is in the distortion produced, the harmonics. Power rating is clean headroom only, and mostly for comparison. Solid state amps are even worse. Some of them are designed so poorly, they produce square waves / and so much more power is unleashed, it can kill speakers
@qua7771
@qua7771 3 жыл бұрын
@@voxpathfinder15r Thanks, I'm a bit surprised to have randomly ran into someone who actually had the answer. I had measured the output of my 50w Badcat. The clean channel output ~45w, and the gain channel was in the mid 60w (not so extreme as the Marshall). My former impression of power tubes was that the had a limit to how much power they could pass, and after that there would only be clipping. Now I'm seeing that that belief was inaccurate. I do have a digital O-scope, but my amp doesn't drive the output tubes the same way the Marshall does.
@voxpathfinder15r
@voxpathfinder15r 3 жыл бұрын
@@qua7771 I am not familiar with your gear, but some KZbinrs have those instruments that display THD % along with power readings, if that is what your digital oscilloscope is reading, then it’s including the total power of all the harmonics. If you’re just measuring the voltage of the biggest sine wave you can generate before clipping, then you’re just measuring “clean” power. If that is how you’re getting mid 60s in the distortion channel, you’re still measuring just the clean headroom of the dirty channel. If that is the case, it could be delivering 90 watts at 10% THD ( total harmonic distortion)
@qua7771
@qua7771 3 жыл бұрын
@@voxpathfinder15r I'm probably using the old school way of measuring things. Next time I'll take advantage of the scopes features. I was a Navy avionics tech back in the 90's, before we had these new digital lab gear. Again, I wasn't expecting such an intelligent reply. Thanks again. Pushing the amp hard makes me a little nervous, but it sounds good half way cranked anyway (not a Marshall). Regardless, what you are saying makes since. I'll take your word. The amp can get substantially louder playing through the gain channel. Audibly more that ~20W louder with respect to how that amount of db is perceived. I'll be creful not to blow up my attenuateor, (Bad cat unleashed rated for 100w), or any speakers. At home I usually play through a 4x12 with V-30, and G12-H75, so not an issue. I do occasionally play through a 2x12 with 25w Greenbacks. I'll be more careful with that one.

Hey, a couple questions.... 1. Looks like you're running into the HI INPUT I of the white 1959RR Tribute amp which is basically the stock Plexi (with 4.7n cap), then slaving out of the LO INPUT I into the HI INPUT II (Normal, or bass input)? 2. You have pedals as "MXR/Dunlop", but which are you using (just the Distortion+, or D+ and EQ, or...._?? 3. What settings do you have the D+ set at? 4. At the end, you turn the volume knob on the guitar off, but there is a woooosh repeat! Are you using a Delay? If so, which one and what settings?? PLEASE CONFIRM and thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!
@ninevoltromeo
@ninevoltromeo 9 ай бұрын
I can't answer for the rest of what you're asking in terms of what he's doing gear wise, but as far as the repeat thing you're asking about.... les paul style guitars have a volume knob for each pickup. What he's doing here is something Randy did alot, and other guys do too-- turn the volume off on the neck pickup, leave the volume up on the bridge pickup, and rapidly move the toggle switch back and forth between the neck and bridge pickups. This will create a stutter effect-- a precursor to the killswitch button that some guys use today.

Hey there! I daisy chain my two heads like Randy did in countless photos. Top channel II of the black head into Top channel I on the white head then into my board which is an echo plex delay pedal by Dunlop, the MXR Superbadass distortion and the 10 band EQ. The 10 band I have set to Randy’s settings which I found online and my distortion pedal has a bass / mid / treb which I match to the heads, bass at 3, mid at 6 and treble at 6. Both heads are stock non master volumes like Randy’s as well. Only thing I don’t have is the vintage Altech 417-H speakers.

You chain is: Guitar => Superbass Distrotion => EQ => Echo Plex pedal, to amp?? Please confirm. Yes, the Altecs add another layer of tone to the equation once you get everything else dialed in. They are their own animal with their own sound!....oh, and the amp....Randy actually used Big Tube old school vintage 6CA7s, not EL34s!!! All my gear is real, you can look me up online or check out any of my bands. I actually play in an Ozzy tribute blizzard of OZZ: the Ozzy and Rhoads tribute and own the replica guitars. No photoshop or fakery. I filmed this when I was 17 still living in my parents house, this was our formal living room that served as my music studio growing up. The clock on the wall was a fake antique that never had batteries in it and I don’t even know how to use photoshop 😂
