After every weekend of baseball my 9 year old son complains about his feel hurting. We have noticed that He is slower and not as quick as the other kids. we finally are taking him to the doctor because we don’t think his feet should be hurting at 9

A common heel pain condition in young athletes is called Sever's disease. The name is more menacing than the actual condition, but basically what happens is kids at these ages are still growing and developing and that includes their feet. When the heel bone and tendons are developing at different rates of growth, and the kid is active, this can cause tension and strain. Hi Nazma, ideally the type of doctor you would want to see is a called a pediatric podiatrist, which is a doctor that specializes in children's foot and ankle problems. A pediatric podiatrist isn't always available in all areas, but most adult podiatrists have experience with children's feet issues too, and that would be the type of doctor you would want to see if possible. A podiatrist is a doctor that specifically treats issues with feet, ankle, and sometimes the lower leg. Hi Khan, we are sorry to hear you are experiencing heel pain. As mentioned in the video, the most common cause of heel pain in children is from a condition known as Sever's disease. It's not as bad as it sounds, and most of the time, assuming it's acute Sever's and not Chronic, children outgrow it. Acute Sever's will respond to conservative treatment, but Chronic Sever's will many times require a custom orthotic.
