This Alice was released on VHS in 1982. I recently retransferred it using better equipment to improve the video quality and stability, and also processed the audio properly through a Dolby B decoder to reduce noise. The audio is still in mono though because I don't have a VCR capable of playing linear stereo, a short-lived format that became obsolete in 1984 and which is used on this tape.

In this adaptation, Alice seems more mad than anyone else. Wonderland appeared rather tame compared to Alice.

Wrong Tom Dunn. The Tom Dunn in this was in his 30's. BTW R.I.P. Julee Cruise (1956-2022) (Queen of Hearts) and Gene Davis Buck (1943-1992) (Costumes)

Its good to see this one tightened up. I really love Alice in this one as she feels close to what I think the actually character is.

If I was acting in a stage play production of Alice in Wonderland, I would want to be the Mad hatter! I just so love the phrase: Mad as a Hatter! I also love it that when during the Mad tea party scene, the hatter asks Alice: why is a raven like a writing desk?

Thank you sooooo much for putting this out there. Hands down my favorite production of AIW. A close second though is the one done by abc(I think?)that had a truly all star cast for the time. Carol Channing's Jam tomorrow, Jam yesterday is off the charts. But again, thank you for giving me back a piece of my childhood that I absolutely treasure 💜💙💜💙

I just realized something. I've watched this a million times since I was a kid and of all of the adaptations of the Alice books I've seen, this is my favorite. The way they added things from the second book to the Queen of Hearts scenes is genius. But for some reason it never dawned on me that at 1:07:49, it's specifically the Hare ("Haigha") that yells in the king's ear.... 🤦‍♂️

They do that in Eva Le Gallienne's version too. I wonder if the script took inspiration from that and from the Disney film with Queen of Hearts quoting the Red Chess Queen and the Chesire Cat reciting Jabberwocky
@kumada84
@kumada84 2 жыл бұрын
@@criminallyautistic8372 Oh, you're right! I only read that script once a long time ago and I totally forgot about that. The only production of that version I've seen is the one with Kate Burton - which I blocked out of my memory after watching it - and they cut that part out. (BTW, I hadn't thought about it in a long time but it's interesting that that version and this version both stayed very close to the books and imitated the illustrations in very similar ways, but this version is my all-time favorite whereas the production with Kate Burton is a festering pile of garbage I'm still mad at myself for paying actual money to see.... 👀👀👀😂) Although, tbh, I like the way they did it here better because it fits perfectly and is a great "in-joke" for people who get it - in her version it seems really obvious that they shoehorned that entire section in just because they wanted to include it after cutting out the White King. I definitely think they intentionally made those references to the Disney movie (also what Alice's sister is reading at the beginning) since they knew the kids in the audience (and their parents) would be familiar with it. But I love the fact that they also used the Cheshire cat as an opportunity to introduce Alice to Jabberwocky to set up the Humpty Dumpty scene... Sorry this response is so long 😂 but I honestly can't get over how great this production was. I appreciate that they basically only cut out things from the first book that would have been impractical to do and filled the holes with things from the second book, and that they kept the two books separate from each other. They just perfectly captured the feeling of the books to me. BTW, one of the other things I really love is that this is the only one I've ever seen where the Mad Hatter legitimately "murders the time" when he sings his song 😂😂😂 That is so brilliant 😖 I'm really done now 😁

@@kumada84 Yeah this production is great! And probably my favorite version of the "You're nothing but a pack cards" scene. If you ask me, the ending to the trial scene should always be chaotic. Like the final crescendo of Alice's mad journey. And with most of the characters surrounding her as the image gets smaller and smaller. The only complaint I have is all the cards are Spades. Like um guys you are aware she's the Queen of HEARTS right? Where are the Hearts? *Knave of Hearts with a heart suit* THAT DOESN'T COUNT AND YOU KNOW IT! And I kinda would've liked it if they had kept the "Told me you have been to her" poem instead of the Mous's tale since he's cut from the script. Other than that, this version is fun and you're right they are very subtle with their LookingGlass references inside jokes. And being an Alice freak its very recognizable. And the song at the beginning is perfect. My favorite Alice adaptations are 1. Disney 2. 1972 3.1999 4. This version 5. 1988 Burbank

Alice Liddell was five when Dodgson first set eyes on her. Yet all subsequent Alice's are adult. There's some erotic goings-on in a woman dressing and acting like a little girl, especially in later adaptations. Saying that, there is a child Alice in the 1988 Czech stop motion adaptation, Něco z Alenky. I recommend the short, Alice and the White Hair, for those requiring an erotic Alice.

Can you somehow find any visual material or better quality clips from the company's "The Little Mermaid" (1979) please? There is a whole play, but the whole recording is of a terrible quality. I've heard a rumour that there is a documentary of the play with a slide show.

I'm sorry, but I don't think I can help you. I'm just an Alice collector; I don't have anything from any other CTC productions. Their Alice was released on VHS back in the day, which is why I was able to transfer and upload it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like their Little Mermaid ever got such a release.
