Had this in my childhood and it was very painful. It still affects me in adulthood. Had many surgeries and casting. Take care perthes warriors.

I had this when I was 9 and I went thru nearly 3 years all together of physical therapy, traction, living in hospitals and then surgery. I’m 30 as of two weeks ago and my main issue now is my back pain, I have severe curvature of the spine because of the difference in length between my legs. I work a very physically demanding job and have for almost a decade. At 19 doctors recommended more surgeries, I decided to go as long as I could without another surgery but it’s getting close my back is in bad bad shape. I am thankful I was able to play basketball and football in school. Now I wish I wouldn’t have to save on wear and tear in my body. My doctor told me as a kid, my body was in the shape of a 30year old at 15, by 30 my body would be in the shape of a 55-60 year old. I agree he was right. He was an awesome doctor he helped me so much. Just be thankful we still have our legs. Some people have to have them taken completely away! Good luck to anyone reading this dealing with LCPD. It’s not the end of the world! Well it might be, however our hip issues aren’t the cause of it! 😂🤷♂️

Wow, it sounds like you've had a really tough time of it. I had a 3/4" leg discrepancy but wear a lift in my right shoe now to compensate. Yours sounds much, much worse. I'm sorry you went through so much. I had a hard time convincing my parents that I wasn't just trying to get attention at the age of nine. The x-rays showed the flattened femur head though. I was falling down by the time they did anything about it.

I did limb lenghtening to compansate instead of lift in shoes, 5-6 months work and alot of hell but worth it.@@karenharris722

I don't understand what they are saying in the video, but I will watch it because I really need it and the pictures explain a lot. I've been suffering from it for over a year, now I'm 13 years old and I haven't had any surgery yet, although I hope I will have it, I hope I will recover, but I know I have to fight and I won't give up, otherwise it won't get better, and please - if you also have problems with diseases, do not give up quickly or at all, because it will not help, and you have to fight, because the road to the goal is hard, but if you reach this goal, you will be really happy. (sorry for any mistakes, I use Google translator and it often translates incorrectly)

Had this when I was I was 5ish. Spent ~4 months in a cast from lower torso to lower thigh, then a year in leg braces, and then basically walked it off. One of the lucky ones

Great video. I am an adult woman 59 (always been a female) and had Perthes as a child. I now have severe hip pain. Females can get Perthes but it's rare. So I guess I'm rare.

My daughter was diagnosed with perthes at 8(she's 12 now)...I always worried about what that would mean for her when she hits your age. I would love to hear your experience with it if you would like to share🙂

Well first things first Teresa you made me smile. I’m a 50 year old man with Perthes. Joozy you have no need to worry about your child. There’s no special implications for girls. I had treatment late 70s and played sport etc. yes I need a replacement, but in the 70s the thought at that time was by 30 years old at the latest, then by 40 etc. I have to take over the counter pain killers once in a while. At 48 my first steroid injection. 5 mins to get that, 18 months no pain. Will call consultant later this year to see about replacement. Your daughter will be fine, it will make her a stronger woman for having to carry this small disability. I bet she’s a tough little warrior and she’ll be top of the class in many ways.

I’m a 44 woman and i had perthes and left my leg 🦵 a little shorter and now as I’m older feels like it stuck in one position now and I’m always in pain now and I have pain in the thigh and knee more to this day makes me cry a lot and pain meds don’t help

Yes, I read that too. I think it's because boys are more 'rough and tumble' than girls and tend to injure their hips more easily. I have a male friend who fell off a fence and got Perthes as a result. He had surgery and was in a cast for awhile. They never even had surgery for it when I was a kid back in 1956. I was just put on crutches with a built-up shoe for a year. I'm so sorry you're having so much pain!
@karenharris7226 ай бұрын
I had Perthes when I was nine and was put on crutches for a year. I didn't have any problems until I broke some cartilage off my hip in 1971. By 1998 I needed a hip replacement but have done OK since. I need to get some weight off now though.

I had this when i was 5 thru 7 or 8 years of age. First had a brace that i could walk without crutches, ride a bike, etc. then they discovered it wasnt working so i was put in a full half body brace with crutches. Had to sit in the trunk of my parents datson hatchback for traveling. I dont remember it hurting much at all. Eventually i had them removed and resumed normal activities but i can say today, as an adult, it did impact my legs as one is a little longer than the other and are a little bowlegged from the braces. Other than that i am fine and had a normal life up thru my 40’s so far with no major issues. Good luck to those with current diagnosis.

@@Thomas.J.Archer I’m 30 years now and I had this when I was 10, since I got it I have a a lot of pain until now , I can’t forget any little detail about my life because the pain was a part of my life , like when my mom took me to all the doctors with no money to pay them I can’t forget her face when they told her there is no cure for me, I can’t forget the kids in the school, the sports I always want to do but I can’t , the way how the people looked at me …. I used to say why me but I noticed that Allah gave us a big blessing a big knowledge of what’s the real picture of this life, I don’t know what’s going to happen to me in the future or what should I do now with this pain but for sure I’m gonna leave this as is and wait and be patience maybe I will die before the hip replacement needed, god blessed you my friend and stay strong

The 'ball' is not the femur. The femur is the entire thigh bone, and the 'ball' is the head of the thigh bone.
