You got some nice shots. I have the same combo, mirrorless on a budget with the A6000 and this lens is worth the price and a very light carry around. I also have a Nikon P950, it's a great bridge camera with a super zoom, but lacks the optics of this setup. Glad I found this video, thanks -

I just got this lens with the same A6000, any tips for sharper photos? It seems like yours have come out quite nice. I've been shooting birds in the backyard and they don't seem to be near as sharp at 350, but i'm sure it's settings/technique. I've only been shooting for a few months, but I appreciate the video. For someone with this exact setup, it was nice to find to confirm I need to practice and work more.

Just make sure your shutter speed is at least set to 1/800th. Birds move pretty quick, that mixed with micro jitters from your hands can cause photos to turn out not as sharp as they can be. Even if you have to underexpose a little to get that fast shutter speed, much easier to fix a dark image then a blurry one!

Thinking about getting this lens. Today i use an 150-600 but have been looking for something smaller and more mobile...
@PatrickS. Жыл бұрын
If mobility is what your looking for then i think the 70-350 is definitely one of the best. Its really not that heavy of a lens so its not to draining to walk around with all day. Definitely not the range of the 150-600. But i still enjoy what 350mm offers.

Have you tried the 150-500 from Tamron? From what I understand the image quality is a step down from the 70-350?

Sir Sony A6000 55-210mm zoom lens or 50mm prime lens which is better?plz reply!!
@warmesuppe4 ай бұрын
Those are two different lenses. It clearly depends on what you want to shoot. If you want a zoom lens 55-210 is okay, but i would go for the 70 350. for 50mm Prime, obviously the sigma 1.4 dc dn, you could also buy a samyang. For just 85 bucks you can also get a 7artisan 1.8 which is manual but a good budget lens

I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?
@sherwood510311 ай бұрын
The 70-350mm is a much sharper lens in therms of clarity. Also focuses faster than the 55-210mm. But what are you describing, seems like a different thing. If you can't get the whole bird in focus, it usually means two things. The bird is too close to you, or the bird it's not parallel to you, or maybe both. With a telephoto lens, if these things happen, when you focus very close to the lens, the depth of field is so narrow, only a part of you subject will be in focus, just as it happens with a very fast F1.4 or F1.2 lens. Make sure your subject is not extremely close, and if there is enough light, use a smaller aperture like F8 or F10.

I bought the 70-350 pretty soon after it was first released, i paid just under $1000 canadian dollars for it. I do agree i think it's price has leveled out and probably won't go down any further! It's an amazing lens and i think it's worth every dollar!

Hey mate, it's a great lens to get. Just wanted to clarify some terminology for you. A "Prime Lens" is a lens with a fixed focal length, for example 35mm. Not a lens with a variable focal length.

The photos are impressively sharp. How did you mount your GoPro to the body? I love taking birds photos during a hike. Did you turn OSS on, and did you use shutter priority? It seems your focus was really fast, normally I have to manually adjust the focus area, because there are branches in front of the bird.
@PatrickS. Жыл бұрын
Thankyou! I use a peak design capture clip to attach my gopro to my backpack. For this i was in full manual, shutter priority wouldve worked fine as well. Full manual is just what im use to when i shoot. For birds i find using the flexible spot auto focus can be a good way to go, especially when there's branches like you said!

I use fully manual most of the time!
@saifaldin_ Жыл бұрын
@@PatrickS. How do you control the exposure quickly when using full manual? I’m guessing auto ISO?
@PatrickS. Жыл бұрын
@Saif Aldin I usually start by taking a couple test shots of the area, ill keep my iso at 100. Then i set the shutter speed. For this shoot i knew birds were going to be moving quick, so i wanted a faster shutter speed. Ill set my shutter speed to double my focal range. 350mm would be like 1/700th roughly. Then ill set my iso until im just a little over exposed. Then i increase shutter speed again to bring the exposure back down to even. So now that i have even exposure of my scene, with a fast shutter speed. If i need to readjust my exposure. I can bring down my shutter speed because im set faster then what i need to capture my subject. So i can brighten it up by reducing the shutter speed, and i cant make it darker by increasing it. It makes it so i don't have to mess with to many settings all at once. Only have to worry about shutter speed.
@saifaldin_ Жыл бұрын
@@PatrickS. That makes sense. Will try that next time. Thank you for your reply. I usually shoot on aperture priority, with ‘auto ISO min SS’ set to a custom button. I also have a button set to ‘memory recall hold’ - this one for tracking moving birds (Shutter priority w tracking AF and burst mode enabled)
