Potential flaw with this this... Dragstrip mode heats up the motors. Since you activated drag strip mode first, turned it off and reran it, the motors were already warmed up. I wonder if there's a difference if you tested it the other way around. Do a pull without drag strip mode. Then activated it to do the second pull

Brooks, I’ve longed advocated to Elon to give us the option for a time dial in. Imagine just saying I want to run 10.0 over and over and over. The car could easily do that down to 30% power over a good 2 dozen + runs. The processor is plenty capable of doing all the factoring. Could easily adjust it by tenths (or hundredths) to get it timed right with the track equipment.
@stephandejager79742 жыл бұрын

I think the main difference between the modes is how aggressively the accelerator pedal reacts. For daily driving you are also using the pedal positions between zero and 100 % - not only to control regen :-) And its about passengers comfort where chill mode shines - probably not the most respected feature on this channel, though.

Here's a suggestion: 😎 As I know that almost everyone wears only paint protection these days! This monster really needs to be modified thoroughly! Using carbon ceramic brakes, light forged wheels with a professional suspension system is the ultimate way to reduce weight and improve performance! I drove a model s p100d last year and within minutes this is exactly what I said. A slider for the power modes,chill mode is dangerously slow. Or at least have a 'kickdown' button at the bottom of the pedal when you fully press it
@davidsongood26272 жыл бұрын
It is definitely dangerous for someone who is used to Tesla power and response. Really and truly though, 80% of the boxes-on-wheels today can’t run a 15 second quarter mile or a 7 second 0-60. So if someone has never driven a Tesla before chill mode would probably feel completely normal and comfortable. Also, any driving move that requires plaid level acceleration was probably not the right choice:)

Hey @DragTimes I was wondering if you've had any trouble with the Michelin PS4S throwing rocks all over your rear rocker panel area and the painted fender mouldings behind the tires? Has your PPF prevented any chips? I actually had to design some direct fit low profile ABS stone guards for my Plaid to protect it from chips as the roads are dirty around these parts (North Texas) and the PPF was just taking an absolute beating.

what's everyday range in chill vs plaid mode? boring test but pretty useful
@BasementTracks2 жыл бұрын
Don't think the range changes much. I did a couple road trips driving in plaid mode only and you get 3 miles per percent without trying to optimize for range.
@XennialGuy2 жыл бұрын
A couple things Brooks... first off, drag mode is a precondition of the batteries, not a state of discharge or motor enhancement. Once you've already been in drag mode, you can turn it off and get pretty much the same results because the batteries have already been preconditioned and we'll stay like that for a while. Every time you take a hit the battery warms up, so essentially you are still at optimal drag mode temps. So a better test would be to have a cold vehicle right out of the garage, do your hits first while not in drag mode. Then hit drag mode let it fully warm up, then do your hits. You also so should be letting us know what your SOC's are and the temps outside, this is about as important as DA is for an ice engine. As long as you are above 70% or so, and the temps outside are above 75°, the numbers should be fairly consistent but you do get a bump above 90%. This is all based on me doing extensive draggy testing on mine. When I was in Michigan, when it got below 70 it started to drop in performance quite extensively with drag mode off, that is until I let drag mode precondition and then it brought it back up and stayed there for a while. But with it off it was night and day the colder it was outside. I'm now here in Florida and it's noticeably more consistent, whether drag mode is on or off. Love the vids, I really want to see the 765 rematch.
@DragTimes2 жыл бұрын
there is extra torque using drag mode when launching, Tesla has told me this, and I have tested as well...
@XennialGuy2 жыл бұрын
@@DragTimes yeah I think the dealer is blowing smoke unfortunately. I've tested this as well and I can't seem to see a difference. It's just a precondition of the batteries to get them in a state of perfect temperature for optimal discharge. Once there though, if you turn it off and stab the throttle, you would get the same result as if you had it on and stabbed a throttle. I do think it's possible that drag mode does change the traction control though. There seems to be a very slight variance with it turned on. I'm going over to immokalee raceway tonight, I'll try to get some comparison ruling traction out.
@derekk59922 жыл бұрын
@@XennialGuy it will be super hard to test that because Plaid mode doesn't have a LC .car lunches so much harder with LC on vs just stabbing the acceleration pedal . However I have run 9.3 in standard Plaid mode before
@XennialGuy2 жыл бұрын
@@derekk5992 I'm not referring to the use of LC... This is simply between straight up plaid and drag mode. Everything from what I understand is drag mode is simply a pre-condition of the batteries, and possibly a change in traction control. But in equal traction environments I'm not seeing a difference. I went last night to an 1/8th mile track and the difference between stabbing the throttle cold and using drag mode was about half a tenth at best both on my slips and dragy, which could have been anything, even traction. It felt more like traction control slightly changed but I didn't see a noticeable difference in traps or 330 ft. Not using LC at all was about a tenth or so difference. Anyway, it doesn't matter, whether it does 6.0x or 6.1x it still destroyed everything out there at the track including trailered in dedicated drag cars.

My opinion. A power slider on paper sounds great and simplistic. In reality I think it's bad, because it's just another potential electronically related malfunction that's possible later on down the line and maybe rather on the premature side. I do however like the idea. The otherside of it is, the idea of having a slider primarily to be apart of say a 10sec bracket race competition is in my opinion too big of a leveraging Handicap in the favoring corner to the Tesla specifically due to being way too consistent and being able to simply dial 10sec best times on the street where regular strip built cars have the complex difficulty of having to apply skill primarily at the track. The plaid is already way too good. A slider to run super low 10s sure is fun-ish but it'll basically beat all other mid and high 10second cars rendering all other competition dead on arrival 🤣
