That's great advice right there, criminals will take advantage of weakness. Never get in a vehicle with someone you don't know either, statistically crimes are more often committed by the drivers against the hitchhikers than by the hitchhikers against the drivers but it's no doubt dangerous either way. Just imagine if both the driver and hitchhiker had bad intentions, the chances are astronomically low but in that case, I guess may the best man win.

@@michaelpatanella, maybe not as long as we exercise caution. There have been cases of drivers pretending to be from Uber or Lyft and also unruly passengers but there are safety tips to follow. For the riders, the best one is to check the tag and see if it matches the tag on the app and for the drivers, if a passenger is making you feel unsafe, best to pull over in a busy populated area and get out. It's kinda like the new hitchhiking and it still comes with risks but as long as caution is used, hopefully there won't be any problems.

8:30 As soon as I heard that they tried to come across as being "homeless", I got goosebumps. I know they were probably focused on making them think they had no money on them to avoid being robbed, but telling a possible abductor that you're homeless is basically like saying "I have no nowhere for people to go to look for me to notice that I'm missing", not to mention that it also implies you're less likely to even have friends/family that would be looking for you to begin with. So yeah, if you're ever hitchhiking (which honestly I wouldn't recommend at all to begin with), do NOT say you're homeless. It basically identifies you as an "easy target" for predators.
@bl0ss0mshum4n2 жыл бұрын
Which is funny because homeless hitch hikers are extremely well connected, like they will notice if one of theirs doesn't respond in 24 hours. Hitchhiking and traveling can be a very social thing, most travelers will be pretty open about what direction they're headed in case they want to make any like minded friends along the way or at their destination. We've had some scares in our community bc one person would lose their phone and being that they're homeless, it would take them a couple weeks to save up for a Walmart phone or something. But usually they check in. Since everyone knows how dangerous it is to get in strangers' vehicles anyway. 🙂

Every time I hear these, a story that always comes to mind is how my Mom’s uncle, who was a very kind person, was killed by a hitchhiker he picked up. The guy forced him into the trunk of his own car, drove it somewhere and left it. He died in the trunk. NEVER pick up a hitchhiker. They can get to where they’re going by walking. I've only hitchhiked once, it was back when my family and I were homeless and staying with my step dad's mom, who hated me and my mother. Me n my step dad got into a fight, and his mom kicked me out so I collected my things and started making my way to the nearest public place that had a roof, which was a Walmart a few miles away, and it was raining like hell. I wasn't really signalling for a ride, though I did consider doing so, and then eventually a dude in a red pick up pulls up near me and offers me a ride. Luckily, he was a good guy and just took me to the Walmart, but I still think about the risk I took to this day. I was in a pretty rough mental state back then so when I accepted that ride I knew the risks, I just didn't care. Fortunately I'm in a better situation now, and I don't plan to hike anywhere except trails at parks.

Great stories and videos. I never take up hitchhikers for a reason.

during the 60s and 70s hitchhiking was pretty common. I hitchhiked alone when I was about 13-14 and had a bad experience. (yes, I know.) I got out alive, but lesson learned. I never hitchhiked again.

Love your work man, just started my own narration channel not long ago as well. You are climbing the ladder and becoming one of my favorite narrators on youtube. Would love to colab with you one day. Keep it up 👻🍻
