Imagine having someone break into your family’s hotel room, stalking your family, getting into your house to take your daughter’s drawings, giving you a dog just to later brutally k*ll it in your front yard, knowing when to get to your vacay home to mow the grass, the cops literally tell you to warn your family, and your response is “yeah… probably shouldn’t tell my S/O about the psycho murdering our pets and breaking into our house; wouldn’t want to worry her!”

Right?!?! That’s where I quit listening. I have to abandon a protagonist and a story when they’re that stupid. I know stupid choices create dramatic story lines but I think a mature writer can be a little more realistic about human dynamics and still keep the listener hooked, even in a horror story context.
