One thing about Louis XVI's last words : he didn't really try to defend himself of anything, but when face to face with the executioner, he asked "How is Mr De la Pérouse ?" Which is a last sentence I find quite touching : La Perouse was a sailing captain Louis had sent on the biggest encyclopedic mission France had ever put together, to gather all the available knowledge of the world. They even had loads of medecine on board to help local undevelopped populations. And when the King of France faced his end, he decided to entertain himself with thoughts of the great big world. I like this story A LOT.

He was a poor leader, but that is due to multiple factors, however, I do believe he and his wife were good people.
