Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is known for her influential essay collections like We Should All Be Feminists and acclaimed novels including Half of a Yellow Sun. In her most recent book, Adichie turns her pen towards the timely topic of individual and societal mourning. An expansion of her 2020 New Yorker article of the same name, Notes On Grief meditates on her father’s recent passing due to kidney failure, set against the backdrop of collective mourning during the pandemic. At CHF Adichie explores the language of grief and what she’s learned from putting the feeling into words. Adichie is joined in conversation by WBEZ reporter Natalie Moore.

Thank you Chimamanda for exposing your notes on one of the most difficult times of your life. You get me. You know how I feel. The physicality of it, the palpable pain. My grandparent's, both of my parents, my great grandmother, my 2 uncles, my 2 aunts...it's almost unbearable. Thank you for articulating what many of us feel.

Just picked up the book and I’m reading this with my son. We had many back to back losses. Her vulnerability and transparency is helping many to heal🙏🏽❤️

I understand the the "in a better place" thing because my adoptive mom was in such great pain, she wanted it over and done with. For those who die suddenly, its hard to appreciate that statement but I get it. Thanks Ngozi for sharing your exerience

Guuurrrrlllll!!! You are appreciated, your everyday stand on being honest in the most uncomfortable discussions is quite commendable. I lost my kid brother in 2007 answer I'm NOT ready to start addressing, talking or even just having the thought and truest feelings on it....there is a way grief strikes and..... Thank you for the honesty and validating that its OK to deal differently.

The interviewer's facial expressions ( when She was clarifying her thoughts on transgender) though..the placidity is a bit off.

Having just finished "Notes on Grief", I had no idea that her mother also died until this video.

Chimamanda, if you ever get to see this, please accept my condolence. And kindly note that, for believers in Christ Jesus (our ransom), death is only a Transition (1 Corinthians 15 verse 19 - 26, 1Thessalonians 4 verse 16 - 18). For you, I plead that you will seek and find Christ. He will comfort you and give you the hope of eternal life. Love you

Death is Death no matter what country you are in. Feeling don't change, when I lost my father I felt the same in the USA. Stop making everything different. I'm sorry for your lost.

Traditional family. Giving permission. When your husband is violent and you can't protect kids unless you commit adultery. That reality of 90% of Africa. The advise is that reality should be said. You can only protect your kids physically and not emotionally.
