thank you so much for posting this, esp the before pics...I live in Asheville but Chimney Rock / Flower Bridge was our favorite easy jaunt, I would have taken everyone who came to visit if it hadn't been destroyed. praying for all affected, hoping it will be possible to bring back the village. Flower Bridge, I guess...no way to bring it back. but so grateful to have this footage to remind me of the lovely times we had there.

We live in TN and only had the opportunity to visit Chimney Rock and the Flowering Bridge once back in May earlier this year. I really can't believe it's gone. I'm hoping the people there are OK and can hopefully rebuild one day.

I live in canton nc, just west of asheville. My family were just up there at chimney rock back on memorial day weekend...it's devastating, heartbreaking to see it now. I know we hear those words a lot, but there aren't enough words to express the sorrow and loss that's felt all throughout the appalachian mountains. Please pray for everyone, the victims, the volunteers...everyone.

Thanks Maggie. I'm in East TN. We only had the opportunity to visit Chimney Rock and Lake Lure once in May earlier this year. We fell in love with the towns and the people. It's such a tragic event. I know the people there can definitely use our prayers. They have a long road to recovery ahead of them.

Thank you for showing the video of before and after. It truly shows the devastation of this small town. I understand Ashville is also gone and that is not a small town anymore. First my heart sanked when I heard of this catastrophe. Less than a month ago, I along with others vacationed in Lake Lure, NC. We went to Chimney Rock, we visited the Flowering Garden, took the boat tour and drove through the town of Lake Lure, Batcave, NC and Hendersonville. We stopped along the main road 64 and stopped at the vegetable markets. I have expressed to everyone, how beautiful, original and down home the place was. The people were the nicest of any small towns I've been through. Being there was relaxing, comforting, breath taking, peaceful and calm. I'll never forget the experience of being there. The town and the people captured my heart. I know how violated the citizens must feel right now with such a tremendous LOSS. I pray no one lost their life. Prayers for those towns.

We have such beautiful pictures. We ate at the Chimney Rock Smokehouse and Hershey's Ice cream. All of those nice shops. and the busy main street. I am so saddened that this is destroyed. It hurts to see this. We are from Raleigh NC and my husband and I had always wanted to go far West in our state. We saw a waterfall. I wished that we had went to the flowering bridge. It is going to take years to rebuild , but won't be the same.

I'm praying for everyone affected by this devastation. I Lived in Mill Spring, up the road from lake lure and Chimney Rock. I would visit the flowering bride and pet memorial often; it's heartbreaking to know it's all gone. It was such a beautiful place. I feel so sad for the people who live there and had businesses there. Sending love to all, you will get through this.

Thanks Nicole. We visited both places for the first time back in May this year. We stayed in Lake Lure, but spent a lot of time in Chimney Rock. The people were wonderful and the scenery was beautiful. The Flowering Bridge and Rainbow Bridge were amazing. You could see all the hard work put into that area. I just hope they are all safe, and that they can rebuild one day.

It was a special time in my life and a special place! I found the area unexpectedly actually! Happy accident! I hope they all stay safe and will rebuild one day as well. It will all be ok eventually. Thank you for the video you made, its beautiful and I'm glad we will have that as a memory as well as the pictures. I know I have some nice pictures with my dog there! Starting in '81, I used to go there and the surrounding area a couple of times a year to visit my inlaws. Lovely place and people. Still waiting on word of the condition and safety of some of the family members, but so far it's been good. Hopefully the ones we haven't heard from are okay. I was actually surprised that there were any buildings left in the village, especially on the creek side of the street. There have been a few floods in the past that caused destruction there, and things were rebuilt, but nothing like this.

I visited chimney rock 2 years ago. We stopped at the state park but drove through the town, we said next time we’ll have to stop here for a whole day and explore…. Now it’s all gone. I also went to Maui, drove through Lahaina, I had already explored there but my kids hadn’t and they were asleep after seeing the new football field, so I said next time we visit we’ll show them the tree.. Everything went up in flames a month later…. Goes to show, live in the moment you have, because it’ll be gone before you know it

That is sad to see it all. One thing people do need to understand about the Appalachian region is that the land is as beautiful as it is unforgiving in nature. It is also unfortunate for centuries much of the Appalachian range has been destroyed by mining. The weather is not the same as it was 40 years ago when I was a child and us humans destroying its structural integrity via deforestation, mining, etc is not helping matters.
