Chimpanzee community kills first observed wild albino baby

Primatologists have described the first observation in the wild of an albino or pigment-less baby chimpanzee, which was killed by its own community a few days later. ThePrint’s Sandhya Ramesh explains the new gruesome observations and their significance in understanding primate behaviour.

Well! Atleast i don't think it's much peculiar! As we humans ourselves aren't much acceptive of the things that we don't understand, history is filled with examples and these also play a part in our superstitions, culture and traditions. Evolution isn't a one way thing, to get a gene passed onto the future generation requires tons of luck and right circumstances and nature in between keeps on testing the waters.

They actually killed the baby within a week of it's birth. It was born July, 15, 2019 and was killed on July 19, 2019. And they didn't kill it BECAUSE it was albino.....this specific group is well known for committing infanticide. The mother of the albino baby also had a baby before this one that was killed by the group.

Two things : the skin colour of a chimp is white , repeat white. It is the chimp's hair on the body is the one that makes it look black.

Good number in India but in many parts of Africa, they are taboo and some are killed believing albinos have supernatural powers and are witches/wizards.
