Insert, like most foster systems on the planet, they age out and they're on their own. Get a menial job, live on the street or in a crap apartment; or if they are lucky, will have the drive in them to succeed. It's hard when they enter adulthood with no family support and hitting brick walls.

Angela Did you parents adopt the kids?
@bigsisterx45 жыл бұрын
Sadly the way the system works in Canada they make it really hard to adopt kids if you arent the same race as them. We're white they are native. You have to go and ask the chief of the reserve they are originally from and more often than not they say no. Once they are 18 and if they want to be legally adopted by us we will do that. Love them like they are blood and they've brought so much joy into our lives. Freaking love those kids.
@sunaleexo5 жыл бұрын
Angela May I ask you how these kids’ situation was before they joined your family ? I’ve read so many stories of Native American children took from their families for no other reason than having the native lifestyle and not being American or Canadian enough, so I really hope these kids had a real reason to be in foster care. I don’t mean to be offensive in any way, sorry if I’m too straightforward and not using the right words, english is not my first language. I’m just wondering how it was for them.
@bigsisterx45 жыл бұрын
@@sunaleexo I know sometimes that's the case. But there are so many cases where the kids do need to be removed. There is alot of hurt in native communities and so many wounds that are trying to heal. It's so hard to overcome some of the generational issues. Both sets of siblings have parents who have other kids in care, and have drug and other substance abuse issues. I'm not gonna get into detail, but they were rightfully removed. My parents just spent 2 weeks up north in there communities visiting with other siblings and a grandmother on the one side. So we dont just shut them out on there ancestry and culture. That will always be a part of them. Most cases now adays kids who have been taken away are rightfully taken. The 60s scoop or residential schools both did no favors to anyone. It's a frustrating thing to look into.

DP 63 It's a cultural difference.... China, unlike many other parts of the world, lacks diversity and seeing people different than themselves is probably a unique and interesting experience. Also, those wanting to take photos typically always ASK to take them and subsequently thank the person for allowing the picture. You're being incredibly judgmental and it's coming across bigoted.
@rachellyons18106 жыл бұрын
Have you ever experienced this in China? It is really harmless. Different cultures have different norms...including those on privacy. A lot of the people in China just haven't seen non-Asian people, especially those with blonde hair...they are extremely friendly, and if you look at the intent behind it, it is not bad. Again, the more you travel, the more you learn that we all behave based on our own cultural lenses...and judging someone in their own country based on your own lens is ridiculous.

How much courage it must have took Penny to leave the only life she's known for 12 years to go with a family she just met! I moved to Canada from China when I was about the same age as Penny, and even now (14 years later), I sometimes miss my connection to my homeland. I've been watching your family for a while now, and it's amazing to see how much she's grown. Thank you Miller family for respecting the cultural roots of all your children, showing them unconditional love and support, and opening your heart and homes to such a diverse family. Thank you to the other Miller children for being so, incredibly welcoming, and Penny and Lincoln for being so brave. I know it's not easy. I hope Penny, Lincoln, all the Miller children, as Amanda and Stephen are living beautiful and happy lives. I know you must face difficulties like any family, but your kindness and positive attitude inspire me to be a better Christian. God bless you guys!

What’s up Addy some people only adopt children of their own race due to where they live, my mum knows adoptees and fosters who will turn down different ethnic groups due to them knowing full well that the child will get racially abused and profiled where they live :/ it’s apparently a hard decision to make especially when the child would fit perfectly into the home and family life but I definitely agree where possible adopt outside your racial group

That word “get” is really not a word you should be using when talking about adopted kids. It’s dehumanizing. It’s like you’re talking about dolls they get from the store. We are human beings.

OK well this made me cry, probably because in 2000, I adopted a six-year-old from Nanjing as a single parent of a biological son! My sister came with me on the journey to adopt Jia (Jeannie)! China was more polluted back then; glad to see the sky was clear. What an amazing family!
@soniinagel41556 жыл бұрын
How wonderful Patti that you adopted a 6 year old! Going to China and Nanjing was such an incredible experience. I am so glad we got to go along as the Grandparents. Sometimes it was a bit like herding cats but certainly a trip of a lifetime for me! I cry just watching the movie. It brings back so many memories.

Disagree they seem like a real loving family. Not like some other family vlogs where the kids don't want to be filmed or the mom clearly has no connection with her adopted child. There's clearly love here.

I am so happy that there are people out there that are willing to adopt and give these poor children the life they deserve. When I’m old enough, I really hope I can adopt, your family is so sweet!
